Desperately grasping at straws!
Here's an unexplained child - wrong stated birthplace, but might be a mistake ???

Even if his birth wasn't registered, he should still be on 1871, 1881, 1891 censuses - though might have been abroad with the army in 1891.

But there's no sign of him, not even under another name, as far as I can see.

John Beacham is in a GR member's tree - try making contact

To expand on the 1887 marriage info, the father was recorded as being a labourer - and not said to be 'deceased'
Witnesses names unconnected

ArgyllGran Report 21 Aug 2022 14:04

Perhaps he's an illegitimate child of Henry Beaham, but not of Mary Caroline Wheeler.
Possibly registered under his therefore unknown mother's surname.

Assuming he was actually born in Kingham, this is the only illegitimate John William around that time;

THORNTON, JOHN WILLIAM -
GRO Reference: 1870 M Quarter in CHIPPING NORTON Volume 03A Page 732

John William Thornton
in the Oxfordshire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1915
Name: John William Thornton
Baptism Date: 17 Apr 1870
Baptism Place: Salford, Oxfordshire, England
Parish as it Appears: Salford
Mother: Hannah Thornton

Salford is approx 5 miles from Kingham.

However, he's accounted for, at least to 1901, so not JW Beacham:

1871: in Salford with mother and grandparents.
Hannah married Alfred Woodward in 1874, and John had the name Woodward in 1881.
By 1891 he'd reverted to the name Thornton (born 1870 Oxford), and was a groom at Woodeston House Stables at Wood Eaton, Oxfordshire, working for John Weyland.
By 1894 he'd moved to Lancashire, and he married Mary Ridyard there, naming his father as Alfred Thornton.
1901: with wife and daughter Emma (3) in Gorton, Lancs.

I think we have to assume JWB's birth wasn't registered.

John William was therefore born before his mother's marriage - IF Mary Caroline was indeed his mother.

So far, can't see the birth of a John William Wheeler 1867 +/- 2.
In fact , no illegitimate Wheeler of any first name in Chipping Norton RD 1867 +/-2.
Nor any illegitimate John William Wheeler born anywhere else in England/Wales in those years.

His army record (BEECHAM) in 1884 says he was born in Kingham in 1869.

In 1901 (John BEAUCHAM 1866) he's a labourer at a gasworks, and said to be born in Oxford.

In 1911 (John BEACHAM 1868) he's a stoker at a gasworks, born Kingham, Oxfordshire.

This is a very old thread and the poster is unlikely to be expecting a response, and is probably in no way connected to your relation, in view of the location

Where have you looked?

Who, when and where did JWB marry?
How do you know he was born in Kingham?

Doreen

It would probably be better to delete this and start your own thread on Military Chat.
It would also be a good idea to say where you have looked and which regiment he was in.

Edit: as so much information has now been added to this thread please DO NOT delete and restart.
