Find Ancestors

I have a confirmed cause, date and place of death. Also confirmation of entry on WW2 civilian death roll of commemoration.

But I cannot find a record of cremation or burial. Can anyone help - as I am hoping this may give clues as to his wife's death (Lily or Lilian Gertrude MARTIN nee SMITH born 23 August 1895 in Wandsworth)?

In regards Edwin's burial - tried on line via Ancestry / Genes Reunited / Find my Past/ and billion graves websites. But no records anywhere.

Emailed cemeteries which I think are in the area - but again no luck.

Ericka H thank you - I wondered the same and i have a requested the 1965 death cert for Lily (Lilian) Gertrude Martin - she could have been in Wandsworth as its not too far away, and the home of 2 of her sons at one stage.

He was a civilian

Carshalton would come under Sutton rather than Croydon. Have you looked there?

Thank you for the suggestions of Brookwood Military Cemetery and Sutton.
At the time of death he was a civilian - but had only recently been discharged from the Royal Navy.

I have just sent emails to the 2 suggested cemeteries and will let you know when I get a response. Thank you for all the help.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. Emailed local cemeteries - most just directed me to on line resources that I had already exhausted.

Fortunately the bereavement officer in Croydon was really helpful and managed to track a grave down in Mitcham Road cemetery for Edwin. Sadly the resting place of his wife Lilian Gertrude Martin nee Smith remains a mystery for now.

Are you relying on 1939 register for your info about the woman’s birth date? Or do you have documentary proof?

Lily's birth said to be c1897 in both censuses, but I can't see a matching birth - the 1895 birth seems the likeliest.
