Find Ancestors

I would be really grateful if anyone can provide any information on the above couple who I have been totally unable to find in the UK census records.

Ellen Geary, was christened in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffs, a village on the River Trent, 5 miles south of Burton-on-Trent, on the 13th August 1815. Her parents were Thomas Geary and his wife Mary who both worked as carriers.

On the 23rd July 1838 Ellen Geary married William Froome at St James Church on Piccadilly. At the ceremony William’s father was named as Lionel Froome and Ellen’s as Thomas Geary.

In 1846 their daughter, Ellen Froome, was born in the District of St Georges Hanover Square south of Oxford Street, London.

Ellen was raised by her Grand-mother, Mary Geary, in Barton-under-Needwood where she was living in 1851.

I assume that William was around the same age of his wife and born in Westminster..

I would like to find out details of William's family and what happened to him and his wife.

Ellen possibly died in 1848. St George’s Hanover Sq. Worth looking for a second marriage for William.

Daughter Ellen in 1861 is with a Geary uncle in Staffordshire. Then she possibly marries in Nottinghamshire in 1868 giving her fathers details as William Froome, Publican, deceased.

I've not looked for deaths yet but will take your advice and do so on Freebmd.

I have no other information about the any other children born to William and Ellen.
I was searching backwards from Ellen Froom born in 1846 (In London.) She gives the same place of birth on subsequent censuses.

I found her at her Grandmother's and discovered hr mothers name was Geary and then searched on FamilySearch for marriages featuring Geary and Froom where I found the above marriage.

I like the look of the family on the 1841 census you gave me. Thanks

Correction to the marriage year 1867 not 1868.

According to the burial record for the death of Ellen Froome in 1848 - she was 34 and of Bruton Place ( Ancestry).

I saw the French death and thought it was a bit odd, partly as he was supposed to be dead by 1867 That tree was part of the Geneanet trees on Ancestry.

Added: that tree looks like one of those muddled up ones. The child born in Derbyshire to William F & Ellen Geary in 1838 - when William was 13!!
Also says William is the son of Lionel & Mary.

Namelessone - you gave the information that William Froome was born to Lionel and Catherine and christened in the 13.04.1815. Could you please ell me where.

The baptism record is on Ancestry

He was born in November and baptised in December, on the one I accessed

The man may well have been ‘dead’ to the daughter he left someone else to raise.

Yes, it was the Ancestry entry. I’m still on my iPad so c& p is difficult. That is the birth date not the baptismal date.
I agree that the daughter might not have known her father was still alive and I am still not convinced the French death is right.
The child on theFrench tree would have been born the year William married Ellen.

It is odd, however, that William never seems to appear on any census.

Having had another look at the marriage in Paris I think it is now possible thst Mary Ann may have been an older child. Mary Ann Froom was registered in Burton on Trent Staffs 2nd qtr 1839.
The parish record for the marriage is on Ancestry. I haven’t had a chance to check the mothers maiden name yet.

William was a stableman, on marriage to Ellen Geary.

The William who married Elisa Grimm in Paris was a coachman - similar, but of course many men worked with horses in some way in those days.

He was a widower.
He was the son of Lionel and MARIE (not Catharine), both deceased.
But perhaps the informant was mistaken about her name.

Witnesses were John Jenkins and John Moxey Salmon, both living in Paris.
