I am trying to locate a grave for someone's grandmother. I did an initial search on the 6 graveyards in Watfird where she died but to no avail.

Winifred M Redfearn ( nee hutchings) b.1896 d.1983 Watford

m Frank V Redfearn b 1881 married 1916

I searched on her married name but wondering whether it could be in her maiden name?

I don't have access to Find My Past( subs expired) so could anyone look up in newspapers announcements if that's possible? to give some clue where she is buried.

Her niece from Canada is over in the uk trying to find where her grandmother is buried.

Thankyou

Is it 100% certain that the woman was buried?

Was she born in the same place as that in which she died?

I rather think that 1983 is too recent for online newspaper articles, although there is a site which does only death announcements…….try googling, as I can’t recall the name of the site

Have you thought of contacting the archivist at the relevant local newspaper?

Deceased online is another possible source of info

One would imagine she would be buried/cremated in the name under which her death was registered.

The cemeteries officer at the local council is your best bet if it is not on Find a Grave or deceased on line.

Yes her niece said she was buried not cremated

Born in London not sure exactly

Died in watford

Yes, so her married name at death

Thankyou Erika

I have searched for the grandfather's grave as he died in 1968 in Worthing sussex but to no avail.

She's tel me later so maybe might get some more info that might indicate where shes buried.

Do you know that it was Watford itself where she died ?

Watford registration district covered a wider area......

https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/watford.html

If you could narrow down the possible place of death and / or her home address, it might be possible to contact local funeral directors who may have managed the funeral.
I did this, when I too was trying to locate a 1983 burial, but in Hampshire.

N.B.... If you do this.....
Keep a note of which ones you contact. Some might not have been established then, but might be helpful and suggest leads.

Ty Gwyn, that is very useful info. I shall pass it on when the lady next phones.

Frank and Winifred were living in Chichester in 1962-3.

Perhaps they're both buried there.
Not listed on findagrave - but then lots of graves aren't.

Her will gives her address as 272 Findon Road Worthing died 28th nov 1983

So she may have died in the watford area and been taken back to Worthing

Her death cert may help along with the informant details

Cemeteries Officers.
She may have been cremated in Watford and her ashes buried or scattered in the same place as her husband.

The Cemeteries Officers have the cremation records as well as burials.

The woman was probably visiting family in Watford when she died, as suggested earlier in the thread.

Name Winifred Mary Redfearn
Death Date 29 Oct 1983
Death Place Worthing
Probate Date 19 Jan 1984
Probate Registry Brighton
Address on Probate record 272 Findon Road, Worthing

With an exact death date, you can ask for an informed search

The actual Will may include instructions for disposal of her remains.

Winifred's name is not in the Worthing Book of Remembrance, nor in the West Herts Book of Remembrance (Watford).

Which proves nothing, as entries in Books of Remembrance are optional.
