Hello Christine. It's a long time since you posted your query, so maybe this is not as silly question as it might seem; but I must ask: have I replied to this Provan inquiry already?

Alexander Provan and Mary Grindlay are ancestors of mine too. Their daughter Helen (Ellen) born about 1819/20 in New Monkland married Alexander Gardner. The latter 2 are 2 of my gtx2 grandparents. I have a fairly satisfactory line with the Provans back to Kilsyth Parish, and for the Grindlays back to Falkirk Parish (the landward part). Both lines were of farming stock.

Your Alexander's eldest brother Andrew was manager of a farm in Old Monkland, and another brother Walter was the progenitor of a line that had a lucrative retail business in Glasgow.

Was your Alexander the one who had a pub in Anderston, Glasgow, or was that his brother Charles? I believe there may also be a connection with Stewarton in Ayrshire.

Hope this is not too late to be of interest to you.
Regards
Arthur

If you'd replied, you'd see the posting on here. Unless Christine's post is a duplicate.

Look in 'my threads' to find out what your other post is.....you only have two

As the thread is so old, try sending a PM to Christine.
