Thank you so much Zoe for the 1881 census of ALL the family! and the later one showing Alice in a Workhouse! Don't think I would ever have found it, tried all variations of spelling but didn't think to sustitute the F for a T. Perhaps now I can make some progress. Your help is greatly appreciated. Jean x.

Hello, i am looking for information on my g grandma Nellie Marvin 1880c and her mother Mary Marvin 1862c. I would like to know if Nellie was born out of wedlock or not, I know that Mary married Allen Havery late 1881 and had 2 sons, but unsure if she was married before or if Marvin is her maiden name. My g grandma Nellie had my grandma Gertrude Marvin 1900, I would like to know if she later married, my father remembers a uncle from his mums side staying for awhile and his name was John/Tom Cousins. All of the above or from Nottingham apart from Allen Harvey (Leicester) and mainly around the Bulwell and Basford area. Any information would be greatly appriecated, many thanks Emma

Elaine Where have you looked for his death? Do you roughly know when he died or just it was after 1901? What was his occupation on your grandmothers marriage cert and did it say deceased? When was she married? Was his occupation something that may have taken him away from home?

Claire Had a hard long look at this, and it seems you have the correct one in 1841 and following, due to the 1901 census where Sarah is with Ellen's son and she is named Aunt would lead me to believe she is Ellens Sister Sarah Hadfield/Hatfied Kennedy. Now according to the 1st census she appears in she is age 6 making her birthyear 1835 no birth certs available for this time *parish records* So according to the IGI details for Ellen she was christened 19 JUL 1835 Eccles, Lancashire, England Sarah was Christened Christening: 24 MAR 1833 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England Ok There is also a Mary in the 1841 census details for her christening Mary Kenedy Female -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Pendleton Christening: 26 APR 1834 Eccles, Lancashire, England -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: Thomas Kenedy Mother: Betsey Kenedy **is another name for Elizabeth** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And Cavvanah S Kennedy maybe Sarahs daughter **only guessing** but if she was born in London that place the family around that area Don't know why we can't find them in 1851 and 1861 we know inbetween that time Ellens mother Elizabeth remarried a Mr Singleton **I think,,LOL** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now Mary Hadfield b1805 Eccles**I think this might be Elizabeths sister**** She is in the 1871 census living on her own on the road next to Ballon road cant work out what it says its 7 something buildings she is a Seamstress In 1861 She is yet again on her own but down on census as Mary Hatfield same address looks like 7 Chantlers buildings canot work out occ. This one has got my brain really going mad WHERE ARE THEY will search through Pendleton district around where they were in 1871 and see if I find them bit slow at mo will do later Zoe

Hi Zoe, Henry only shows up on two of the Census 1891 and 1901 both show his birthplace as Lincolnshire. I may have found Henrys death record 1918 reg. District Kings Norton. This is the reg. District for Smethwick! The only problem is that it shows his age as 75 instead of 69-70. Do you think it’s worthwhile ordering the certificate? Still no luck connecting Nellie Bullard/Sullivan to James Knott Regards Malcolm

I have found a marriage of Alison Simpson Mitchell to Sophus Peter Bahnsen 1891 Hartlepool, Alison was still a mitchell at the time of the census but I can't find Sophus. I cant find them on the 1901 census either but they had a son Francis who was born in Hartlepool in 1892 and died there in 1904?

Hi Zoe!... Claire again! Wow!... You've found loads of info, a lot of it makes sense. I guess it's a matter of piecing it together bit by bit. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the time & effort you've put into it. You sure you don't mind helping me with this? I've got the details from the 1841 census: The info I've been given is: 1841 Census: Barton upon Irwell & Salford. Thomas Kennedy age 45 Elizabeth Kennedy age 30 Sarah Kennedy age 8 Mary Kennedy age 7 Ellen Kennedy age 6 They were living on North Road, Pendleton, Salford. Says Thomas was a shop keeper & born out of the country. Don't know if this info will help you. It looks a good possibility! No mention of Singletons or Hadfields/ Hatfields though. What do you think? Thanks, Claire

Hello Zoe, Thanks for the reply - will have to look at church records, hoping that she was baptised. As my sister would say, 'Was she born the wrong side of the blanket?' Could you please help in finding John Hartley, born Clapham, Yorks. W.R., about 1861. 1881 census, living with his brother Thomas at Rathmell, Yorks w.r., unmarried. We traced Thomas through all the remaining censuses, but John appears to have vanished. Regards, Kath

Hi Zoe, Henry Bullard was 53 and Widower in 1903, Nellie was 23 a Spinster (Yes 23) from the marriage certificate. According to the 1901 Census Henry Bullard was a Boarder living with the Sullivan family in Smethwick. His DOB is given as Abt.1848 and Birthplace as Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire. I have checked Ancestry BMDs (Beta) form 1847-1852 for Henrys birth. I found three in districts, Royston, Sculcoats?, and Lambeth. I’m not sure if any of these are close to Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire. I did find a death on Free BMDs that may match (Birth 1849 Death 1908) but it was in Royston district. Regards Malcolm

Hi Zoe, Trying to find the birth date of George Edward Nichols/Nicholls, to order a cert, Waterbeach Prs show only BAP date, 16 Nov 1845, and Camdex don't show him at all. His parents were Abraham & Sarah Nichols, and the whole family is together in the 1851 cencus, details of which you sent me through the week. Abraham Nichols & Sarah Coxall were married, 26/05/1844, at Waterbeach, question, would a marriage cert be as useful for my records as the birth cert for GG/Gdad George Edward Nichols?

James from the 1851 is a possibility that's presuming it was one of the sons and not a unwed daughter. Cannot see a birth record for her I suppose she never got married as a marriage cert may have given fathers name! Maybe you could get in touch with the parish for the area she was born and see if they have any records of her. Hope this is of some help Zoe
