Hi Nicky The Ship Inn isn't listed in Porlock in 1851. I also can't find a John Perkins. I had a search for Harriet as the 1861 census states John was also a master mariner so I guess he could have been away at sea. The nearest I could find is this entry in nearby Luccombe. Could this be her? SMITH Edward 55 Farmer 21 Acres Porlock, Som. Sarah 55 Porlock, Som. PERKINS Harriet Daughter Married 25 Luccombe, Som. Edward Smith Perkins Grandson 1 Luccombe, Som. Ooops! My mistake. Yes it is Mary. :-) Thanks for that. I was unsure whether the Thornbury lot were my stock but that just proves it 99% :-)

LOL Glad it's not just me that makes mistakes like that! If there's anything else I can help with for the Thornbury area just shout - I only live 2 miles from Thornbury. Nikki

Gill As far as I'm aware the relationship stated on the census is the relationship to the head of the household, in this case it would mean that Thomas is the 2nd cousin of Charlotte, you might want to post the details on a thread to see if anyone else has any ideas. Nikki

Nicola Report 26 Oct 2005 18:49

Thanks for looking Nikki, not sure if that's Harriet or not. Strange that the Ship Inn Porlock Weir was not on the census as it is 15th century I think! John may well have been at sea, family legend has it that the Ship was headquarters of a family smuggling business ! Nicky x

I wonder if my great-great-grandfather, Frederick Greenslade is listed on this census? I am fairly sure that he was born in Dulverton, but I really don't have that many details on him. His son, my great-grandfather was born in 1876, so I am hoping that he might appear, even if it was as a baby! If you are able to find anything that sounds like it could be him, I would be really grateful, as I have got stuck at this point in the tree and cannot find him on the 1901 census at all! Many thanks Anne-Marie
