Hi Suzie, The closest match I could find shows him living at Forest Row, Pontypridd area, East Glamorgan aged 1. Birth at Eglwysilan (sp?), Glamorgan. Father was James Toby (I think!) and a ship operator. Mother listed as Ann. There are siblings too. Could this be him? My Welsh geography is apalling I'm afraid!! I've saved a copy of the image (over 2 pages) if you want to take a look, just send a PM with your email addie (quote gibbs and gibbs 2!) Louise :O)

Hi Helen, This looks like him, living just with his wife: James Key 1827 Northamptonshire, England Head St James Clerkenwell London Maryann Key 1827 White St, Middlesex, England Wife St James Clerkenwell London Image shows his occupation as Merchant Man (?) - well thats how it looks to me lol! Living at 5 xxxx St (possibly Gloucester St?). I've saved the image for you if you want to PM me with your email addie. (Please quote ref 'Key') Louise :O)

Dan Report 12 May 2005 01:22

Hi Louise Thank you for the kind offer. Would you be able to check the 1861 for a Michael and Margaret Kennedy, both born in Ireland possibly living in the Holborn area. Michael was born c1800 and was a shoemaker by trade. Also on the 1861 a James and Catherine Kennedy. James was a bootmaker born 1830 in St Andrews Holborn and a Andrew Mahoney (aka Mahony) born Ireland, occupation Tailor in Holborn area, his wife may be a Hanora/Honora. With much thanks Danielle

Squiggles Report 12 May 2005 01:55

Danielle, I'm having no joy with the Kennedy's at all, and there were no Michael's born within 6 years of 1800! Closest match was 1807 but nothing else matched :O( Perhaps they went home to Ireland?! Think I MAY have found Andrew, married to a Honor, so the name is pretty close? Living in London and both born in Ireland. Eliza Coombe 1809 London City Head St Giles without Cripplegate Middlesex Andrew Mahoney 1811 Killmore, Cork, Ireland Head St Giles without Cripplegate Middlesex Honor Mahoney 1831 Mangh, Kerry, Ireland Wife St Giles without Cripplegate Middlesex Jane Smith 1814 Westminster, Middlesex, England Lodger St Giles without Cripplegate Middlesex The image is very faint so the occupation is tough to make out, but looks like it may be as a tailor and his wife was a charwoman? Both living in London City. If you'd like a copy of the image, please PM me with your email addie quoting ref 'Mahoney' :O) Louise

Hi Louise It's me again. Hope you don't mind me asking for another lookup? I wonder if you can find a Henry Revell in the 1861 census. He was born in Hull around 1823/24 and his wife's name was Elizabeth, also born Hull. I'm also trying to find a William Sessions born Newark, Notts about 1873/74. I would like to find him in the 1891 and 1901 census. I don't know where he was after the 1881 census but he eventually ended up in Grimsby, Lincs as a fisherman. Many thanks Jenny

Hi again Jenny, :O) I think I've found your Henry Revell, but he is listed as Revel. He was a 1st Engineer in 1861 on board the SS Albert. They were in French waters at the time of the census! Obviously no wife details, but all his fellow seaman are listed with him. Listed as married, age 38 and born in Hull, Yorkshire. Drop me a note with your email addie for the image (please quote 'Revel') Name: Henry Revel Age: 38 Estimated birth year: 1823 Relation: 1st Engineer Household: View other family members Gender: Male Where born: Hull, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Vessels Town: Havre Roadstead France County/Island: Misc Ships at Sea or Abroad Country: England Source information: RG9/4462 Registration district: Misc Ships Sub-registration district: Misc Ships ED, institution, or vessel: Albert (2) Folio: 40 Page: (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 1 GSU Number: 543289 I'm afraid I wasn't so lucky with your William Sessions in either year though :O( There are one or two that match closely in age, but the areas are all wrong. Sorry about that! Louise

Hi Roderic, As the names are so unusual, I'm wondering how many variants there may be in the records! I did find a birth record as follows, could this be the daughter perhaps? Name: Busch, Emilie Louise Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1879 District: St Saviour Southwark County: London Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 182 (click to see others on page) This could also be the daughter living with her grandfather in 1901: 1901 England Census Henry J Balshaw 39 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son Battersea London William Balshaw 71 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Head Battersea London Emelie L Busch 20 Newington, London, England Granddaughter Battersea London Anna M Payne 45 London City Servant Battersea London It seems Emelie was a music vocalist, is that posh for singer? ;O) I can't find the mother at all, other than on the 1861 census which you have already. Maybe she died which would explain Emelie living with her grandad :O( Assuming shes the right one! I've saved a copy of the image, please contact me with email address quoting 'Busch' if youd like it! Louise :O)

Thanks once again Louise Would love the image and have e-mailed you direct. William Sessions I know was a skipper in his later life so maybe he was on board that night and they never bothered with the census. I guess if it wasn't a very large vessle they might not have put much importance on the census. Little did they know we would spend hours pouring over their details!! Best wishes and thank you Jenny

Hi Have been searching every where for Robert Whitham born 1908. I was told he was born in Thorpe Hesley or Leaventhorpe in the Rotherham area. I haven't had any success. I believe his father may have been called Charles. Can you help please? Regards Margaret

Squiggles Report 12 May 2005 18:36

I'm sorry Margaret, but as he was born post 1901, he's too 'young' to appear on any available census :O( I checked births at 1837online for you as I have a few spare credits and think I have his birth registration index for you if that helps? WHITHAM Robert Rotherham Vol 9c Page 796 Jan-Mar 1909 At least you can order a birth cert if you don't have one already? Hope this helps, Louise
