Hi Chris Sorry could find nothing but had a similar thing with two on my ancestors. My husband's father had two different Christian names birth certificate had his uncle's name on it, think he probably went to register the birth, not so literate in those days, and true father on wedding certificate, so could have similar case. Also my own father (parents divorced and not seen my dad since I was a toddler) he was Born and registered in one name and then married and died in his mother's partner's name that ws a real muddle to sort out especially as his mother had re-married yet again. Just a couple of possibilities to explore, hope it doesn't confuse you more. Good luck if i can hlep you againjust let me know. Maureen

A difficult one, I have a grandmother Maud Smith on her marriage certificate it says her father's name was Thomas Smith a private in the army the only idea as to date is that she was probably born between 2-7-1884 to 2-7-1885. Don't feel obliged as I know how many Smith's were around at the time. Sharon

Hi Maureen, Hope you are feeling better today. I am looking for 2 sisters, 1. Ravina/Rovina/Rosina Woodruff, born 1868 in Dubln but living in Cheriton Kent on 1871 census with her family. Showing as Ravina on 1871. Can't find her after then so perhaps she married or died. There is a Rosina in a convent in Deal on 1881, she was born Ireland, so maybe mine? 2. Edith Kathleen Woodruff, born Dover 1874. On 1881 census but not on later ones. living with family in Hougham Kent. Listed as Eade Woodruff, Nephew, Female??!! I have birth cert and she is daughter. Lovely transcription error!! Had she married or died by 1891? Father for both girls was William Woodruff, mother Mary Woodruff. I am wondering if both were in convents or perhaps living in Ireland as mother was born Limerick. Hope you can help. Margaret

No problem Maureen...thanks for looking. Did not mean to 'hassle' you...I genuinely thought my first post had been overlooked as I thought people after me had been answered. This is a brick wall one for me and so after careful thought I decided to post again (albeit saying that I appreciated you may not have had the chance to look yet). You are a brave woman for offering what you have...I sincerely did not mean to seem as if I was being pushy.

Hi Andrea There is 16 cd's in all but births and marriages are on different cd's it is in alphabetical order with 13 discs on christenings/births and 3 discs on marriages you can search by name over a 5year period each way, sometimes it gives variations on surnames other times you have to put them in. Can narrow searches down to cities or towns but not all there and can put in parents if birth or christening, though that can confuse as find sometimes parents change christian name or revert to middle name, also spouse if a marriage. Have found from my own experience they are not always born where they say either because can't remember or to avoid being thrown out of a town if no work. So do a quick search over either England Scotland Wales or Ireland if not too common a name. Must admit thought there would be more on it as very hit and miss, still if it helps a few it is worthwhile. Maureen
