I am trying to trace information on my great grandparents so if someone could do a 1901 census lookup it would be really appreciated. The information I have is from my grandmothers marriage certificate of 1916.
Emily Lindsay - age 20 at time of marriage.
Fathers name - Francis William Lindsay. occupation, Taxi Driver.

Address at time of marriage - 15 Pickstone St, Manchester

Kath and Andy

Many thanks for looking up for me. You have both come up with the same result which I reckon is the family I am looking for. Emily was the daughter if Francis and Emma would be his wife. Brilliant!
Thanks

Hi Andy

Can I just check through with you.

My grandmother Emily Linday was born 19/09/1896 and died 1st quarter 1982.

Her father was Francis William Lindsay.

I didn't know my family which is why I am doing this research. I am doing it blindly so I am bound to make mistakes. Have I made the right connections?

Thanks
Trudy

Well, her death is definitely registered with the first name Emily. However I think that because of her father's name and occupation matching on both the marriage certificate and the 1901 census she must be the Emma birth that Andy found as there is no Emily on the complete index. Perhaps she was known as Emily so as not to be mixed up with her mother.

The only other alternative birth in the same year and qtr. is for an Emmeline Lindsay registered Oldham, 8d, 749. However I think the name of father and occupation on the 1901 census makes the Emma birth more likely.

UPDATE - just found Emmeline in the 1901 census (spelt Emeline) and her parents are William and Mary Ann and her father is an Overlocker - so this one definitely isn't yours. Your grandmother's birth has to have been registered as Emma.

Hi Andy
Here is the full marriage certificate info.
Emily Lindsay and Robert Lockett married at the parish church of St Augustine, Newton Heath, Manchester. DatGeorge Cotton and Minnie Barnes.

Robert Locketts fathers name is Charles Lockett- Occupation - carter. Address 17 Pickstone St.

Emily Lindsay address is 15 Pickstone St so it looks like nextdoor neighbour sweethearts.

Hi Kath
I agree that it is most likely to be the first. Thanks.

I want to try and go back as far as possible as this researching is so addictive besides finding my family.

I still can't find a marriage record. Maybe it wasn't recorded in the national registers, only at the local offices. I understand that some of the records were lost in World War 1.

EDIT found it. Thanks Kath

The marriage is in the index under Robert's name, spouse Lindsay. It's the September qtr. of 1916, Prestwich district. However Ancestry is playing up and I can't get any images for the page using Lindsay as the surname.

UPDATE - just tried again and the Lindsay page is now coming up. She has definitely married with the name Emily. (I'm really fed up of Ancestry today - it is on and off every 5 minutes).

Hi Andy

I have the census records on Robert Lockett. Is there any chance you are able to go back any further than 1901 census for Francis William Lindsay?

I don't know why, but for some reason Frederick and Emma are on the census in 1891 as Frank and Ann !!! It's definitely the same family though because son James and daughter Jessie are with them and Frank (or Frederick) is still a cab driver:-
