Hi Mike,

Thank you for finding those, it looks like the Mary Gough who died 1844 was not mine,i do have the death certs for both John 1844 and Mary Gough 1845 and buried at St Margarets, they both died in Metcalf St, where they lived in 1841

Would appreciate it if you could look at the father (a Tailor) and address of those baptisms please, i had not thought about there being any more children other than the ones on the 1841 census

I think i found the Harriot Gough in 1851 you mentioned, she is with George and Mary Devenport (the marriage you found), but although she is the right age it says she was born in Northhampton, i have checked the image too, i cannot find Harriot/ Harriet in 1841 born Northamptonshire, so could be her. Will keep an open mind on that one.

Thank you again, much appreciated

Mary had died 2 days earlier of Inflamation of Lungs and John died of Disease of the Heart, There is a birth for a Thomas Gough 1st Q 1845 and death 1st Q 1846, wonder if the infant you found buried at St Georges church 1846 is him, as i cannot see him in 1851.

According to the 1841 census Harriot was 6 years older than John, would there be any reason she was baptised 4 years later than he was?

Although its far too early, i found a 1722 map of Leicester, which shows the North Gate and St Margarets, would the North-Gate on the baptisms refer to the same area?

Hi Mike, me again,

I hope you don`t mind me asking, i have found a birth for this baby,
1843.
Entry No’. 1125. 7th. June.
William Son of John & Mary GOUGH.
Metcalfe Street.
Tailor.

but can only find a death in 3rd Q 1847 for the right area, which is a year later.

the possible burial you gave me was,
All Saints Church.
13th. August. 1846.
William Gough. An Infant.

I hate having to ask if you could please recheck that burial date, as you are so spot on.

appreciate your understanding

Greeting’s again …..Sylvia.

Yes I still have to check these Burials out :~

St: George’s Parish.
Thomas Gough 23rd. Feb. 1846. An Infant.

All Saints Parish.
William Gough. 13th. August. 1846. An Infant.

With all this interest in the “ Who do you think you are ? “
It gets very busy at the Records Office with everyone lining up for the fiches
So I’m afraid I ran out of time……

Re your inquiry of The coverage of the Parish of St: Margaret’s ?
Yes North-gates came within this area….just
Three Parishes meet up St Margaret’s , St: Leonard’s and All Saints
All within this area so it can be very confusing at times.

Re as to why Harriot’s Baptism took place latter after her birth ?
You will see that there was a lot of changes of Curates at the time
And having looked at the registers each one went on a
“ Recruitment Drive”…..
So much so that at one point there was 68 Baptisms
taking place ON THE SAME DAY at St: Margaret’s…….

Oops sorry Mike, i was geting a bit excited, when you found 3 baptisms i didn`t know about and a bit eager to see if they fit in my tree.

I am awaiting John Goughs (1839) birth cert, i have his death from 1916 in Belper Derbyshire, looks like i will be sending for a couple more.

Whenever you have time will be fine for those burials

Hi Mike

My grandparents built a house in Colby Drive Thurmaston in the early 1920's, I would like to find out the details eg what date, cost etc. Can you tell me if I would need to employ a surveyor or is there a central place in Leicester that one applies to?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Could you check out a marriage for me when you have time?

The couple are William Chamberlain and Selina Cooke, married at St. Margaret's on 19/3/1833. (information from the IGI).

I know who the bride is - daughter of Richard and Elizabeth, born Leicester 1810, but I'm trying to pinpoint the groom.

I'm guessing he's a lace manufacturer, abode Nottingham, son of William and Ann Chamberlain. Am I right?

Thanks very much Mike - that was very kind of you to look at the licence details as well as the marriage.

Pity it doesn't give the groom's occupation; the abode's OK, but the person I thought it was would have been about 8 years older.

How irritating :-)
