Hi Mike,

Thank you for this, it was me you did the look up for where Alice belonged, now, C&P from your post,

I See that the Adam born 1772 Son of Adam & Mary Robinson
Goes on to marry an Elizabeth.
Died in Lowesby cum Cold Newton.

Yes he married Elizabeth Phips 4 Dec 1796, i had no idea when he died , i do now though, but there is an Elizabeth on the 1841 census with son James and family in Melton Mowbray aged 70, which i hope you don`t mind, makes me query that burial you found for her, i have found a death for a Elizabeth Underwood in 4Q 1843 In Melton Mowbray, but as you know there were no ages on the deaths back then, so i could be wrong.

As far as i know Adam and Elizabeth Underwood nee Phips had 3 children James b.1796 (my ancestor), William b.1799 and Joseph b. 1801 so i`m not sure about the Adam buried in 1833 age 19, seems a big gap between Joseph and Adam, unless there are more children i don`t know about, not impossible though.

Thank you for all your help

Sylvia

Hi Mike,
Please can you advise me as to how I find marriage records for a William Kemp b. 1787 Leicester & Charlotte Gilbert b.1794 ? Leicester. I understand that they married on the 25th Oct 1812 at St. Mary de Castro church Leicester but I do not have a source for this to confirm it. If I can find the record, it might give me a lead on their parentage but I am unable to find birth or death records for either of them.
Any help/advice would be really appreciated.
Thank you
Heather

Thank you so much Mike for the info & the offer of looking at the records for me as they might throw up a bit more info.
I don't know if I can tie up any of the other marriages to the family tree but of course any of them are possible. The Christian names for most of the Kemp males in my tree seem to be John or William so I was hoping that perhaps William was named after his father.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
Once again, many thanks

Hi again Mike,
I should have told you that I have info on the Gilbert family going back to the 1560's. It's the Kemp family that I have come to a standstill with. Sorry if I have caused any confusion.

Morning Mike,
Thank you for the info on the Kemp family which I will add to my tree.
I have had a look at the previous info which you gave me on the early Kemp marriages & I feel that there must be a connection although I think they may be a bit too early to connect them to William. Perhaps there is a generation missing but I do know that William was born on the 13 June 1787 in Leicester.
I am grateful for your help.
Thank you so much
Heather

Seasonal Greeting’s …Katherine.

Is this Mary’s Parents Marriage ?

St: Margaret’s Parish Church. Leicester.

Entry No.239, Sep 25,th. 1843, After Banns
Thomas Allen, Full Age, Widower. Labourer, Of Upper Charles St,
Son. Of John Allen. ……., Labourer.

Mary Grogan, Full Age, Widow. Of Humberstone Gate,
Daughter . Of John Smith. ……. A, White Smith
Wits: Michael Mcgurk?, ??? Smith.

White Smith :~ Tin Smith. ….. repairs ..Pots & Pans

I could not see a burial for the name of Grogan
Within both City & County of Leicestershire
In order to find out who Mary Ann was married to

But with a surname like that I think we could be looking at Irish records
To find out that. ……

I see for the Birth index there is a Mary Ann Allen
Born April May June 1844.Qrt.
Leicester
Cert No’. XV 105.

1851 Census returns for HO 107 / 2088 / 569. / Page 11.
St: Margaret’s & Bishop’s fees

No 7. Eaton Street.

Henry Allen. 39. Frame Work Knitter b Thurmaston.
Susan Wife. 33. b St: Margaret’s Leicester.
Eliza. Dau.. 10. b Ditto.
Elizabeth. Dau. 9. b Ditto.
MARY ANN Dau. 6. b Ditto.
Louisa. Dau. 4. b Ditto.
Emma. Dau. 1 b Ditto.

So the above Mary Ann could well be the Mary Ann born 1844..
As the Census night for 1851 was Sunday 8th. April
Therefore Mary Ann would not have reached her 7th birthday date

Hi Mike,
Thank you very much for the info, you've confirmed that I have got the right birth cert for Mary Allen as there are only two recorded in 1844 and her father was definately Thomas Allen, it's just that she was known on later certs as Mary Ann so I just wanted to make sure. The marriage you found is the one I think as being correct but like you I've not been able to find a Grogan death that would fit with being Mary's first husband. Could you have a look for her birth, I know Mary Smith must be the most common name in Britain but according to her death cert in July 1884 she was aged 71 making her born about 1813 and on the 1851 census it says she was born in Shelton, Leics. Father's name John.
This is probably a tall order.

All the best to you and thanks again

Kathleen
