Hi thanks for the replies.

My Great grandfather was called Frederick Burston and my Great nan was called May Elizabeth Winter. I got their full names from my nans birth certificates. The problem is trying to find more info on them. I can't find a marriage certificate or at least one that is close. I believe my great nan was born around 1895/6 but can not be sure. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

BURSTON FREDERICK GER M 1863 48 Newcastle under Lyme Staffordshire

Both the above living with May somebody! Might the 2nd one be your grandfather?

I can't find a marriage either!

Wow thanks for all the replies.

Some of the stuff is what I have found earlier, but unfortunately can't confirm if they are correct or not.

I believe they lived in Southwark and Rose very interested in the 4 children you have found between 1917 and 1925. My nan May Rose Emily Burston was born in 1920. Also the Fredrick Burston birth in St Olave as well. Rose I did the see the 1907 marriage but what put me off was the date as this would have made my great nan 14 when she married. Thanks for all your replies this has been a great help.

Also, where is the best place to find death records for 1935 onwards as I believe Frederick Burston died around 1940.

Lee,

I was thinking there's no marriage because Frederick was already married.

Here's my theory. Frederick was married Louisa Sophia Scott so he couldn't marry May.

There's this death:

Deaths Dec 1945
Burston Frederick 61 Lewisham 1d 717

and then she is free to marry:

Marriages Mar 1946
Burston Louisa S Russell Deptford 1d 1176

There are no births for a Louisa S Burston.

Thanks Paula I have had a look on there but again you have to get the name right and the way they used to Index records it can be hard to confirm if correct.

Rose, very interested where you got the information from. I just spoke to my mum and she was shocked to hear your theory. The Louisa Burston is this the marriage from 1907?? it is quite possible that they never marrried and the children took their fathers surname. You have come up with more inof then I have found in weeks. Much appreciated.

You should look at the 1911 census and see if Fredrick is listed as married.

Does the 1945 death sound correct?

Chances are there were children with Louisa Sophia Scott.

There's a Frederick William Burston that keeps catching my attention. He's with a family of Simmonds in 1911.

Hi Rose,

Spoke to my mum regarding this we think you have the right death for 1945. WE believe this to be true as he was unable to attend the wedding of his daughter in December 1945 due to being dead or illness. We also checked my nans birth certificate and on there my great nan is May Elizabeth Burston nee Winter.

I looked up Frederick Burston and there is one in 1911 born 1882 living with his sisters family in Rotherhithe registered as married. His occupation was a Carman, the same job given on the marriage certificate for the marriage to Louisa Sophia Scott. I then looked up Louisa Burston. Bingo, there is one living in cardiff born 1888. Unfortunately, I don't have enough credit to see what is there.

You have been a great help......Really shocked the family as they know nothing about their grandfather. There seems to be no photos which may explain why.
