Need help to find out more about HERBERT MURRAY.Born c1888 d1940.
He was I think born in Co.Durham.And served as a Royal Naval Reserve Officer
during the second World War,with the rank of Lieutenant.He may have served
on H.M.S.Defiant.
He is a First Cousin 2 times removed from me.His father was Robert Murray,and his Mother Phebe Bibbins.

A man born in 1887 is extremely unlikely to have served in ANY capacity during WW2.....except perhaps in the LDV/ Home Guard

Do the maths...........

If he served, it would have been in WW1
