But I see the original sticky is now locked - they obviously don't want any further applications!

Kiwibird Report 18 Jul 2010 05:33

As someone who undertakes online surveys on a regular basis for marketing companies I am surprised Genes are conducting such half baked research.

Considering they are now owned by the owners of 'Find my past' who have sent me email surveys on more than one occasion in the last 3 years and I have never had a full subscription to their site.

I have been a paid up member of Genes since 2004 and they have never asked me once what I think of this site,. but are happy of late to regularly send me emails encouraging me to build my tree. I f they bothered to look they would see that I have a tree of nearly 5,000 people on this site and am regularly adding to it.

Did I imagine it but didn't GR or perhaps GC as it was then post a message a few years back now asking for suggestions? Quite a few people responded I think.

I got a reply to the email I had to send through the pm system

Dear Sylvia

Thanks for your email, we're very grateful for the time you've taken to send us such constructive feedback.

You've put forward some very valid points, and i'll certainly ensure that these are passed onto our marketing department to take into account for any future surveys we may decide to undertake.

Best regards,

Julie

a slightly different letter from the norm ...... wonder if they will follow through?!

Yes, Lesley, I remember that a few years ago.

Yes, Sally, I would do so if I were you.

The reply I received advised that there will be an online survey, too.

Gai Report 23 Jul 2010 11:27

Hi Everyone,

I just completed the survey which was part of Facebook, so now it will be interesting to see if they put in on the website.

I've been hearing about this survey on Facebook

I refuse to join Facebook .... so another pm to GR, sigh!

I understand from other members that there is an online survey ....... on FACEBOOK. I refuse point blank to join Facebook, it is having serious privacy concerns here in Canada, and is under investigation by the Federal Privacy Commissioner. Please can you tell me why you are conducting an online survey through such a site. And also, how may I participate in that survey. I have been disenfranchised by you ...... and so have many other members. I am not the only GR member who is not a member of Facebook. Is this a deliberate way to again only get information from a select group of GR members? I did suggest in an earlier email to you that you should contact GR members through the email addresses that you have. This would ensure that only active members would contribute to the survey as they are the ones who will have maintained their home email addresses with you. On an open site such as Facebook, you are likely to get a weird collection of responses. I look forward to receiving a reply from you ..... and hopefully, a chance to participate in the survey.

I will await their response ...... hopefully on Monday!!

Having been told in a reply email that there would be a survey on this site for those unable to attend the market research sessions, I would have waited to see it, and still shall do so; however, having seen that their survey is on face book - here is the link to it:

I hope they keep their word and put it on this site, too.

SylviaInCanada

Thanks for that Joy

I'm going to hold out to see if they do indeed put their survey on THIS site

I may do the survey again - forgot to say I thought they should remove the silly names from the database, ie Donald Duck.

Gai

Gai Report 26 Jul 2010 06:42

Hi Ladies

I really don't understand why they put the survey on Facebook in the first place as the GR page only has 339 people that like the page. I would have thought putting the survey on here in the first place would be far more beneficial to obtaining an outcome.

Dear Sylvia

Thank you for your email.

Please find below a link to the survey that you refer to.

Nothing said about a survey being done through THIS site.

The survey is on the Zoomerang site. They are professional survey compilers. My employer used them regularly. I'm pretty certain that if you log on to your Facebook Account it will simply re-directly to that site.

What GR should have done, perhaps, is to add a link to the survey on this site.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 26 Jul 2010 18:12

IGP

I think that is the point

......... there has been no link on THIS site, on any boards, to direct active users of GR to the survey.

and that is what SHOULD have been done.

I shall be doing the survey as soon as my daughter and family leave later this mroning

I wonder if there is any way to prevent people filling out the survey more than once ...... or 20 times???

Gai Report 27 Jul 2010 01:03

Hi Syliva

I just tried to do the survey again via Facebook and it wouldn't let me. The message came up that this survey has already been taken.

I still believe they should have put a link on this site to get a true indication what the members want. I have noticed that the Facebook page now has 380 friends which doesn't compare with the Ancestry page that has 84,000 odd friends.

Use that link I gave above

I have just used the zoomerang site, and filled out the survey.

It took me about 20 minutes ..... largely the last 2 sections where you have to write comments and suggestions. Thought required!!!
