Hi everyone ,
i have recieved my g/uncle's will today .. and it leaves everything to my g/aunt and g/uncle who were his brother and sister ..
going by the will it seems as though he was divorced as his wife had another surname .. so something to try and look into ..

Has anyone else who is waiting had their's yet ...

I will look in later on

Hi Hazel,
Margaret in Canada is still waiting but it's only 8:20 in the morning here, no mail delivery yet.
I must have received a telepathic message from you. Just before you posted your message I was checking to see where the thread was in "My Threads". It had gone down to page 4 but now it's on page 1 again.
Maybe later today I'll be adding to it to say I received my will. I can only hope!

Hazel,

I'm pleased it has finally arrived, and has given you some more information. They really are fascinating.

Margaret - hope yours arrives soon.

I am now prompted to send for one or two more, just to give some insight into how families were sharing their money around. I might wait for a while, until the rush has finished.

Just to let you know that I just received gt. grandad's will. This was the one ordered 18 August from Canada.
Now I would love to know what happened to the silver tea & coffee service and the piano that he left to his daughter. She died at the tender age of 14.

Margaret,
so pleased that you got your will .
The silver tea& coffee service and a pianio....no i'm not guilty lol .
but i do hope it gives you some info that you can maybe follow up .
my will told me that my gt uncle didnt leave his wife a bean he gave it all to his sister and his wife remarried just 9 months later .
I had first thought that he had divorced his wife but that wasn't the case .

I applied to Chester for two wills. They arrived 3 days later, and cost only £3.50

I wonder why it was so much cheaper from Chester?

I got a will today, just a small handwrtitten one from a gt aunt and dated the day she died in 1932. So she must have known she was dying.

I was a little disappointed in the will that I received in that it was just a typewritten copy and nowhere can I see a date as to when it was written. I was interested to know how soon before his death that he wrote it. He was only 45 when he died but I have his death certificate and know that he died of cancer so presumably he knew he was dying.
Just more questions! They never end.

I assume the Chester Wills were ordered via the Chester wills database and that's why they were cheaper? Pity other counties don't have the same thing!

I have 4 wills and they all have a date on when written.

One from 1885, he left everything to his wife -provided she did not marry again in which case it went his daughter.

The most interesting one was from the above said daughter which was 4 pages long and very detailed, with names, bequests, donations to charity etc. Every single one of her posessions from fur coats to wardrobes found a home. But it was the names in the will that enabled me to untangle a mystery. One of the best £5 I have ever spent.

Yes, the Chester wills were direct from Chester.
