It is invaluable to keep in your bookmarks :-)

Hi Ladies
I am overwhelmed with your kind help on this, please don't think I was ignoring you yesterday, FAR FROM IT. I was digesting and today I am going to print everything out and tomorrow whilst I am off work, spend the time collating it all ready to show the Mother in Law on Sunday : )
You have both done phenominally well, gathering all this data and making it "link" into a story ....

THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN
PS...I have my PM's also which I am printing out :-D

LOL Anne, that's the worst about this site, they don't let you know when somebody has added to the thread, before you post.

Maura,
Apologies.... I think you could be right about William James marrying Marianne.

Anne

GlasgowLass Report 11 Jan 2012 17:54

Hi Maura,
I sent Lorraine a PM yesterday saying as much
However...
William James married Mary Ann Welsh in 1911. That is his him with his new wife on the 1911 return.
William James who married Marianne was a different man and can also be located in 1911 elsewhere in Londonderry
I also found Robert Alexander's marriage to Mary Ann Smith.... they did moved to Glasgow and are the family at 106 York Terrace in1901
His parents are not in their household but of course, you have already located the mother at the home of Eliza Jane in Glasgow .
Would need to purchase that 1901 census to determine if mother Margaret was a widow or not, if she was a widow then SHE would be the missing head of household from her Derry home.

If Wilfred was'nt born until after 1921 GRONI in Belfast is the only place you'll get his birth cert from.

Annie found some of these birth, but these are all children of William Evans & Margaret Lyons
Eliza Jane 1872
William James 1874
Robert A 1876
Samuel 1879
John 1881
Andrew 1884
Margaret 1887

Now other than William James & Samuel I can't find marriage for any of the rest.

Lorraine
Margaret Lyon and William Evans had 7 children with 6 still living @1911.
I believe that missing child from the list is :Andrew Evans b 1884 in Londonderry.

I am assuming that he is the one who died, but not all of the children are accounted for between the 1901 and 1911 censuses

Hi Lorraine,
I don't know how I might work out if there was a Wilfred in the family but I will root around and see.
John Evans son of William Evans and Margaret Lyon married in York, Ontario, Canada.
He w married Mary Jane Wilson on 22 June 1909.
She was the daughter of Samuel Wilson and Charlotte Jane Couttland.

This marriage record is held on Ancestry and has been transcribed incorrectly.
It is filed for 1907 marriage when the actual says 1909.
I am not yet convinced that the bride's last name was Wilson.

Just had a proper look at the 1911 for 22 Terrydreen and can see Samuels Brother William James with his Mum, Wife and kids.....what threw me for a minute was that he too has chosen Samuel and John as kids names and has a William James aged 9....I thought I was bad having four cousins the same age named Tracey! haha

Great stuff

FANTASTIC!! this is really good and makes sense (now I am at home and not at work :-D).

I like the Canada connection too as it may be a coincidence, but my Mother in Law says one her Granddads Brothers (Granddad is William James b. 1913) went to Canada also so we assume this would have been in the 1920 / 30's..he could have been following his Uncle John?

How have youmanaged to find this so quickly? I am really pleased and thankful.

Chancing my luck would we "you" be bale to find out if Wilfred Evans , Brother of William James 1913 existed or if this has been dreamt?

Like you I had not scrolled down on the 1901 census ....a lesson learned!!

A big big thanks once again

Maura,
My apologies.
There are so many posts now that I totally missed yours re William Evans and Margaret Lyon.

Other folk's trees are much more fun than one's own.
I do hope Lorraine is keeping up with all this?

Maura,
Just seen your messeage re the 1901 census.
This is what I meant....
William J Evans had been entered as a "Son" to head of household.
There was no head listed on the return.
As the Head of the household would normally sign the return, I scrolled down to see who's signature was on ithe bottom, and spotted the annotation re Scotland
