Does it cost anything to look through parish records for details of deaths and burials?

If you go to the record office for the area, no. They may charge if you want copies of the records. Don't forget that many records are available on line. Some websites like IGI are free, some like Ancestry are pay to view.

Do a google search for the area you wish to search and see what comes up.

My mom mentioned today that most of my great grand-dad's family are buried in the same church as he was. Would like to find out more about it.

If you'd rather not give names and places then that's OK ......

This Church?

Christ Church
Quarry Bank
Brierley Hill
West Midlands
DY5 2DN

(Diocese of Worcester)

The Church has an internet page with further contact details. if it is the correct church, they could probably tell you where the burial records are held.

Not sure if this is your grandfather - not too good with the Midlands area

Deaths Dec 1961 (53%)
DAVIS Victor age 38 Stoke vol 9b page 656

Try looking for archives/libraries in the area. If the burial registers have been deposited (no longer at the church) they may have them on film.

My mom said he was in his 50's when he passed away, I'll ask her to pop to the churchyard to check the headstone for me. He did pass away at some point during the 1960's though.

That's probably the best option.

Dudley Archives seem to hold PR, but they don't seem to list Christ Church, Quarry Hill.

Do you know if local public libraries hold archived materials?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 9 Apr 2012 09:49

You'd need to look through each of their web pages, and contact them yourself.

If your mother is able to pop to the churhyard to look for Victor's grave, she should be able to ask at the church for info about where the records are held - or perhaps she could have a look herself for other graves
