Estelle ~

I have emailed GR many times about the problems.

Katie has been responding to my recent emails.

Oh, also, if you bookmark the http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/tree/default.aspx page once you have got it open with your old tree showing, it seems that you can always come back to it.

Simon :-)

I think I may have found a way around the nasty new tree...

If you open a new window and paste

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/tree/default.aspx

into the address line it opens the old tree and, it appears that you can go on editing and adding to it just as we always used to - and that the new info is being saved (as I can also see it in the new tree version).

Curiously, it doesn't seem to add new people to the 'name count' when you open the new tree, although the information for the new person is all shown there.

It's that green "please wait " box with the count down bars that pops up wheneve I want to go from one person to another that does my head in. I hate them.
Intersestingly, they don't appear if I have the info box open. M

Have all the comments gone from the comments boxes we used to have??!!

Ken2 Report 24 Jul 2012 14:33

Further to my previous posting I have had a response from the Service Team to my comment and the reason why I couln't see my 'View Matches' was because I had pop-ups blocked on my computer. Now allowed pop-ups on Genes and View Matches works fine.
Thanks to a speedy response from Lisa &Alex from Genes Reunited Service Team.

Hi All, I hate the new tree, the old one was far superior. Havn't Genes heard the saying 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' I think they should have given us the option to continue with the old tree. Saying that, they knew almost everyone would opt for that and no one would use the new one.
I'm sure it's not just my computer, but the new tree is very slow and keeps freezing, and then the error on page comes up, never had this before.

I'm very sad and I think Genes have made a big mistake.

I wont be long following it.

I hate the new tree. I cant find the trees that I am supposed to see now.

Why oh why do they have to mess around,it was fine as it was.

I wont be renewing my subscription this year....unless things get better by November. :-(

I, too, would like the facility to merge individuals, having numerous marriages between first cousins on my tree. The biggest problem I have is information not being transferred from the old tree to the new tree. Baptism dates are a good example of this. I have previously provided feedback to GR about both issues.

Ken2 Report 20 Jul 2012 18:15

On the new tree I can't view a persons 'Matches Found' I just get a 'cllick' and a strange little yellow star icon. I'm using the latest version of Internet Explorer on Windows 7.
Never had this problem on the old tree.
Have sent GR a message on the Feedback facility.

Hi Estelle,

Can you tell me why you have removed the old version of the tree?? it seems you have lots of dissatisfied members on GR. I sent feedback...now it's working... earlier today. What Jennie Annie said is correct, I've had the same problem, adding details & duplications occurring.
It would also be nice if we had the option of a pedigree view, so we can add cousin marriages.....and before you tell me to upload a ged com, the tree I have here is different to the one I have on Ancestry & I would like to keep it that way!!

Hi Scozz, it would be a big help if you could email me with full details of all the problems you are having with the new tree. Please let me know what isn't working properly for you and please also let me know how you think we could make it better. Please send this to [email protected]. I will certainly discuss any suggestions you have with the tree team.

Kind regards,

Estelle

I don't have a problem with GR working on a "new" tree. I have a problem with them giving us no choice but to use this tree, that has many problems! I wouldn't buy anything in a shop that is broken, and I won't pay for this un-usable tree!

I have another tree on software. It is at least three times the size of my GR one, because I don't put living people on the GR tree.

I've made contact with many "cousins" all over the world (on other sites, as well as GR) and doubt I'll find any more.

So when my subs are due, I'm saying goodbye, and so is my tree, 19,000+ names. As well as contacting relatives, I've helped many people over the seven years I have been a member (before I get jumped on, the help has NOT been on the boards).

So if you have any rellies from East Lothian, there's a good chance we're related lol :-D contact me before 22 August. :-D

There are a number of commercial tree programmes available, either try-before-you-buy downloads, or as hard copy discs.

Off the top of my head
Family Historian
Family Tree Maker (published by Ancestry and including a sub)
Rootsmagic

Just do an internet search.

Similarly for free programmes
Family Tree Builder
https://www.familysearch.org/ used to do one called PAF but I can't find a link.

These options have been discussed frequently on this board - I'll see if I can find some of the links
