John Report 13 Dec 2012 12:20

There's a Temple Street listed for Southwark/St George the Martyr Southwark, which may come under Lambeth, but a cursory look at these doesn't reveal a George Jones.

A wild guess, but there happens to be a George Jones on the Kennington Road, Lambeth 1891 393. 69. 5

Did you find William's info on the census? I am having trouble finding him in 1891.

If you're asking ME, Potty - no, I haven't. Kennington Road is one big road!

Sorry, John, I was asking Annabel! Just wondering where she got her info from as I have never seen that sort (ie father's name and address) on any school census.

I have found a William Jones in the 1901 census living near Walnut Tree Walk and just wondered if there was a connection.

Have found William's school record - it look like a beginning of term list - gives William's birth as Oct 1883. It doesn't look like a boarding school or institution, so would presume William was living with his parents.

Possibly the same William, address 86 Union Street.

Thank you for your reply s, that where I got the information from on Ancestry, trying to trace the birth of a William John Jones born 1883 in the 1911 census he is down as William Thomas born St Lukes living in Essex but my friend said her grandfather was always known as William John.

What we know about him
Married in 1903 to Elizabeth Maud French gave fathers name as George Jones a porter.
he had been in the Army his ears were damages, have found Army records for a William Jones which could be him but only 2 pages so not a lot of information.also found 1901 census of a William Jones in the the Army.

getting late here so off to bed thank you Annabel

The man shown on 1911 census is unlikely to be the one whose school info is posted...........he would have been born no later than 31st March 1883...........not in October of that year

What prompted you to pick on that particular school admission record?

Annabel

I've looked at the 1891 Census for 5 Temple Street, St George the Martyr in Lambeth District and there were no Wilson's living there.

To see the page go to the 1891 Census (Ancestry) and at the bottom where it says RG12 type in 349 for Piece and any number between 9-14 for Folio. Click on Search and it should take you to a list of names. Click on any of the Images. Then go to Image 13. This should be 5 Temple Street.

I know all about those, Moonbeam.......lol!

For what it's worth, my opinion is that the school record does not relate to the person being researched. The birth is too late
