yes i think this is the death of catherine monk

december 1905 liverpool

catherine Monk (nee bulger was born 1859) in liverpool so she would be aged 45 at death

probably the reason elizabeth boswsll came home from america for the funeral

Is it possible that this is Catherine's death ?

it has just occurred to me why elizabeth came back to liverpool in 1905/6

her mother catherine monk (nee bulger) died at that time

i have never been able to find catherine monks death certificate

catherine gave birth to thomas monk in 1905 and perhaps she died in childbirth

perhaps elizabeth came back for the funeral

That Johnny is likely their son, from the christening in 1906 previously posted.

I think he was in the merchant navy, there are lots of crew lists with him mentioned. Think he married and died in Barrow in Furness - so probably didn't settle in America with his parents, or he came back at some point.

i didnt mention in my original post but my elderly relation mentioned the name "johnny boswell" so this would confirm monk/boswell marriage

If the US army draft card is correct, it named Elizabeth as wife & nok, it is dated September 1918 - which would indicate they were still together in the US.

my relative says elizabeth had at least two husbands and im wondering if this is elizabeth on her second marriage

Yes Ann, that's the birth I think is right for Daniel, this is the christening for Mary:

Mary Louisa Boswell
Baptism Date: 13 Dec 1885
Parish: Toxteth St Silas
Father's Name: George Edmond Boswell << Plater
Mother's name: Edith Boswell

Address 6 Alder Street

I couldn't find one either under the name Boswell or Williams

The only Daniel Grover I could find was registered in Wandsworth in 1891 but could not see a matching Mary

Any luck with a re-marriage for her Ann? I can't see one England/Wales.

I think George Boswell died in 1886 in Hampshire (age 25), it's possible but I can't be sure as it doesn't give his middle name - the only real clue is the shipyards - he was a boilermaker and likely worked in the shipyards - Thomas Arthur was born Barrow in Furness, again a shipyard town.

Edith's daughter was Mary Louisa, ch Liverpool 1885 and according to parentage would be Thomas's full sister. Son Daniel was reg in Sept 1891 as Grover, but I can't see any of them on the 1891 census. Nor can I see Elizabeth/Thomas going back to America.

No luck in finding any of them on the US federal census either.

Edith Grover going to america with two small children (with no husband)

why isnt she called boswell ?

thomas arthur boswell aged 10 stayed with his grandad

thomas arthur boswells father george must have died

this is sooooo interesting

Although I haven't found her re-marriage, I think this is his mother travelling to Boston:

Edith Grover
Arrival Date: 19 Feb 1892
Birth Date: abt 1864
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/ Nationality: English
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England; Queenstown, Ireland
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Britannic
Search Ship Database: Search the Britannic in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database

With her is Mary Grover (5) and Daniel Grover (6 months)

thomas arthur boswell seens to have been brought up by his grandparents if thomas' mother was in america this would explain things

david

david Report 11 Mar 2013 10:14

when i heard the name "boswell" i assumed he would be a "traveller"

the MOMKs were a travelling family and they usually married their own kind

elizabeth was a hawker and her father a horse dealer/earthenearsdfealer/hawker

david

david Report 11 Mar 2013 10:07

yes they did return to england

her name is elizabeth monk NOT margaret (my mistake)

this definitively sounds like them

am i right in thinking thomas boswells mother was in america ?

my relative says elizabeth was married twice

what a lot of information and so quick

whoopee !!

Father's Name: Thomas Boswell
Mother's name: Elizabeth Boswell

Father's occupation is boilermaker
