I suspect, after visiting St Helens archive for a particular local church. you will only to find that churches records are held at Lancashire Archive in Preston :-S :-S

if it was a register office wedding the only way you will find the details is by ordering the certificate.

However 'registrar attended' could mean a marriage in an RC or a non-conformist church.

You can probably find the registers for these churches in the Lancs archives

The one sure thing is that the wedding was not in a CofE Church

What do you wish to know?

Is this them in 1911??

Edward Litherland
Age in 1911: 64
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1847
Relation to Head: Head
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England
Civil Parish: Pemberton
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Street Address: 77 Poolst Lane Worsley Mesnes Wigan
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Labourer
Registration District: Wigan
Registration District Number: 458
Sub-registration District: Pemberton
ED, institution, or vessel: 19
Piece: 23075
Household Members:
Name Age
Edward Litherland 64
Ellen Litherland 50
Charles Litherland 21
Elizabeth Litherland 10
David Parry 23

Ellen & children born Wigan. And this could be the christening of Charles:

Baptism: 6 Oct 1889 St James, Poolstock, Wigan, Lancashire, England
Charlie Litherland - [Child] of Edward Litherland & Ellen
Born: 31 Aug 1889
Abode: 77 Poolstock Lane
Occupation: Collier
Baptised by: Henry J Wadeson Curate
Source: Original register at Wigan Archives

So maybe not non-conformist just a registry office wedding? The family track back through the census to 1881 in Poolstock Lane, where they have John Marsh (53) living with them

Can't see him prior to 1881 born Nottingham though! I think you would need the marriage cert for father's name (assuming he knew it)

I wonder if he'd been married before. Possible for 1871

I can't find a birth registration for Edward Litherland in Nottinghamshire only this:-

Births Mar 1849 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LEATHERLAND Edward Nottingham 15 642

Flip

Flip Report 24 May 2013 23:40

Yes, but his age changed with each census and without his father's name it's highly unlikely to pinpoint the birth. This could be the death of the birth you posted TootyFruity:

Deaths Jun 1850 (>99%)
LEATHERLAND Edward Nottingham 15 397

Without some certificates or corroboration it's just speculation at the moment.

Lorraine, are you descended from one of their 2 children? And if so do you have any other info?
