Yes - edit the opening post (your first one) That will allow you to alter the title.
Unless you want to add a note to the opening post about tracing the descendants, don't change anything in the text box.

Alter your title - go to your opening post and press 'edit' - to include 'Australia'. Hopefully that will attract members who are used to purchasing Australian BMD.

You ought to be able to purchase and download an uncertified DC from
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria

If that doesn't work, use the 'Ask the Librarian' service for advice.

Don't ever buy certs through Ancestry...it's a rip-off.

A very big THANKYOU to all who responded to my posting . You all are truly wonderful people ,I wish I had a little bit. Of all your knowledge.
I have managed to have a look at Leslie's service records and am amazed at the info on them . I have just looked at the "trove" .thankyou all so much .my next step is to purchase Leslie s death certificate which I presume I get from national archives in Australia. If I join Ancestry can I do all this on there .? I am hoping eventually to 'find' living relatives in Australia .
Regards to all

Found on Trove.

Reported The Argus (Melbourne, Vic) Monday 15 February 1926

NEW INSOLVENT.
Leslie Arthur Ferriman of Southey street Kensington, railway employee. Cause of insolvency: Sickness of wife, borrowing money at high rates of interest, and pressure of creditors. Liabilities, £85/17/9; assets 5/. Deficiency £85/12/9. Mr. J.V.M. Wood, assignee.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/3734786?searchTerm=leslie%20arthur%20ferriman&searchLimits=

ADDED:

Occupation from the article matches this ER where he's at Queen Street, Altona with Alice Maud.

Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980
Name: Leslie Arthur Ferriman
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1924
State: Victoria
District: Corio
Subdistrict: Werribee

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Apr 2014 10:52

Ancestry only lists selected ER years. The names are listed alphabetically meaning that anyone with a different surname living at the same address is very difficult to find

Victoria has an ‘Ask a librarian’ service.
http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/services/ask-librarian

If you were to contact them, they *might* be able to tell you the names of other eligible residents in the missing years.

As Leslie and Alice married in 1915, any child born within a year would reach the age of majority 1935/1936. Consequently ask them to back-track a couple of years from the 1937 address as shown on Ancestry, then forward until they moved and so on.

1937 - 5 Higginbotham St, Coburg, Bouke
1942-1954 30 Balloan St, Coburg, Wills
1963 – Midnight Ave & Spring St, Cockatoo, Pakenham, McMillan
1972 – 49 Rsl Centre, Dandenong Rd, Cheltenham East 3192
1977 – (Alice) 2/162 Waterdale Rd, Ivan 3079, Batman

If the last 2 addresses turn out to be residential/care homes, they won’t be a lot of help! If you’re very lucky, their probable child Iris Marion might be listed under her married name.

THANKYOU everyone yes I knew about the bigamy and I am indeed Audrey's daughter. I am in contact with the family of Irene's marriage to Fred peters ,I just would like to know about what happened to Leslie on his return to Australia .thankyou it was wonderful to look at the service records and see the correspondence about the bigamy because my peters cousin knew very little about that either. Although I have been doing research on and off for a few years I am still not too clued up on what to do .so THANKYOU all again

Patchem and Eileen -
sorry to be so long in replying to your request at 00:23 - only just logged on today.

The info re Leslie Arthur's death is from Ancestry.co.uk

He's also on electoral rolls from 1924 to 1972, along with Alice Maud.
In 1931 there' s also Leslie Arthur's brother Cyril Francis Ferriman at the same address (5 Higginbotham St., Coburg, Bourke, Victoria) .
Cyril Francis is on many other electoral rolls to 1972.
Also in Coburg, at 70 The Grove, there's Beryl Estelle, George Ernest, and Nellie Ferriman - possibly related? Haven't checked.

I posted above the info which I have added to the OLD thread (relating ONLY to Audrey and Muriel)..........no-one else has made a positive contribution to it

ErikaH

Addendum

Research shows that Eileen is Audrey's daughter..................

Hope this hasn't been added to the other thread!

Trawling through the ER images,

Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980 about Leslie Arthur Ferriman
Name: Leslie Arthur Ferriman
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1949
State: Victoria
District: Wills
Subdistrict: Coburg

30 Balloan St
Aside from Alice, living with them is Iris Marion, a textiler. No indication of relationships, but may be a daughter or daughter-in-law?

That's the only ER she is shown on in the same household

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Apr 2014 10:49

Image 23 of 33 of his service records refers to his bigamy. Its a letter from solicitors writing on Muriel's behalf from Plymouth to the Australian Army. Dated 22 Aug 1919.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Apr 2014 10:40

He lied about his birthplace...............but not about his father's name.

I'm puzzled as to how Leslie comes to be Eileen's grandfather, given that she was asking on her other thread for info about Audrey's relations..............and Audrey was the only child of the 'marriage'

We can only hope that she returns.....................

Not sure if this will work. Click on the following link. It will take you to the Australian National archives and his WW1 service records. You can move to the next page from the opening one

http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=3554261

Details of the 1917 marriage to Muriel Irene are on there!

Hang on - that Leslie Arthur says he was born in Brighton, and that his father was Arthur John Ferriman (deceased) a civil servant
