Welcome to the boards Jennifer.

Do you have a copy of her MC? If so, who does she name as her father?

If the witnesses aren't from Frederick's side, they may be her relations. Have you identified all of them?

For what it's worth, she had a middle initial

Margaret F Howard
Spouse Surname:Shepherd
Registration Year:1912
Registration Quarter:Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district:Billericay

I don't think this is the right couple as the children were born in Billericay from 1913 to 1925

Do you already have her marriage cert as you mention the church she married in? Was she living at Queens Crescent at the time of her marriage or following her marriage?

What was her dads name ? You say he made pianos under his surname of Howard but haven't given his Christian name

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 18 Jul 2014 10:10

If she was 21 at marriage in 1912 she was born circa 1892

The death cert gives her birth as 2 Jan 1892 so would have been coming up to 21 when she married

She may have said 21 already so as not to need her dads consent

jax Report 18 Jul 2014 15:20

Also of course the date of birth on the death cert could be wrong?

You really need Margaret Florence marriage cert if you don't have it to confirm her father, but if it is correct there is a possible marriage of her parents below

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1874
>>>Anderson Elizabeth Euphan St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 617
Cunningham Daniel Vincent St Geo Han Sq 1a 617
>>>HOWARD William Edmond St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 617
LEWIS Adelaide St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 617

Looks like William died in 1909 which could be why Margaret went into service

I don't quite understand what the letters & numbers are please could you shed some light on what they mean such as st. geo.h.sqr 1a 617 thankyou

K

K Report 23 Jul 2014 04:30

Hello Jennifer

These letters and numbers are references for the marriages and births from FreeBMD which is a transcription of the Civil Registration index of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales free to search http://www.freebmd.org.uk

Using these reference numbers certificates can be ordered via the General Records Office (GRO) http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

st. geo.h.sqr 1a 617 means this particular marriage was in St George Hanover Square Registration District - Volume 1a Page 617 of the register (and in this case for the December Qtr of 1874)

Do come back if you need more information or there is anything else :-)

As Ongar is a separate registration district to Billericay, it is probable that they were married in the Billericay register office and had a separate wedding in a church (catholic or nonconformist?).

I checked the parish registers on SEAX for the Q4 1912 marriage in High Ongar, Chipping Ongar and Greenstead, and the marriage is not in any of those.
