you need to get his death certificate. That will tell you the cause of death AND the name of the informant, which may help you search further

It is not unusual to find errors on death certificates as most information is hearsay only, no documents have to be shown except for the cause of death

This looks as though it is the death of the John Connolly as given you by your aunt ............ hearsay though it is.

England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007

Name: John Connolly
Birth Date: 27 Aug 1901
Date of Registration: Jun 1977
Age at Death: 75
Registration district: Rochdale

1 of my Aunties got in touch with another auntie (who has been abroad for a few month ) and she gave the info to her to pass on to me. John and Winifred had 10 children and it is taking me some time to get round them all. So far I have only met 1 of my cousins who's mother were killed so she hasn't any info.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Aug 2015 19:19

but you said earlier that your aunts knew nothing about their father ......

......... so where has this new information come from?

Lesley

Lesley Report 11 Aug 2015 18:58

Hi
I got the info from my aunties. They live in littleborough. Their mother winifred was my grandma and john connolly was their father my grandfather ( they never married ) but was not in their lives so they don't know much. John died in a house fire. I never knew about this family until my mother died and she told us who her real mother were.

This is the 1911 Census for the above family, even though I am not convinced it is the correct one

I have found a Public Family Tree on ancestry that has a John Connolly born October quarter 1901 in Littleborough, with the following siblings ...........

Ellen (Nellie) Connolly
1895 – 1984

Lizzie Connolly
1898 – 1982

Mary E.(Lizzie) Connolly
1899 –

Alice T. Connolly
1907 – 1973

Emma Connolly
1908 – 1908

Lucy Connolly
1909 – 1912

Joseph Connolly
1912 – 1914

Willie Connolly
1912 – 1914

Francis Connolly
1913 –

Monica Connolly
1918 –

HOWEVER, this John Connolly seemingly died in 1981, age 80

He also married an Ann Dawson 31 January 1931, Rochdale

I am not convinced that this is the John Connolly you are looking for.

Where did you get your information on date of his death and his sisters????

Thanks for the info everyone.
I will suggest that to them.

You'd need to contact the paper for the area, and see whether they have an archivist.

If none of your relatives is prepared to get a copy birth cert, then I rather fear you're stuck

It may, of course, be that he didn't have a second name, but, if he did, your chances of tracing him would be so much better

'Re-marry" slip of the tongue sorry

Lesley

Lesley Report 24 Jun 2015 15:24

My Aunty (his Daughter) said she heard he died in a house fire 30 some years ago but nothing more. The birth to be honest is the same as Wininfreds as a guess.
Wasn't sure if news paper records were available to see on here. That's the reason I gave them details

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 24 Jun 2015 15:19

One of their birth certs is your best way forward - to find out if he had a second forename

Who suggested the man died when and how he did?

Unless he was married before he started his relationship with Winifred, he couldn't 're-marry'.

Lesley

Lesley Report 24 Jun 2015 15:14

They were put in care so they don't know.
They are the ones asking me to search for him so I'm just
doing what I can to help them.

Lesley

Lesley Report 24 Jun 2015 15:11

I think I might need to find if he remarried. I will ask and see if they know anything.

Thanks for the info given

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 24 Jun 2015 15:11

So they must know when and where their father died - surely

In any case posting their birth details will not in any way help your search.

You should NOT be posting birth info about living people - especially in view of the circumstances.

You need to get a copy of one of the certs to find out if the man had more than one forename.

The name in itself is far too common to be able to pinpoint the right man
