My great grandfather's birth certificate
I have asked about this before but am trying again to see if anyone can shed any more light on Aber house Port Talbot
My suspicion is that it was a workhouse or unmarried mothers home . but I cannot trace it .Also it gives the mother's occupation as Domestic servant . The only Aber house I have found is in Pricetown Nantymoel which was a colliery managers house which does not seem to be the right place .
The mother was unmarried , and the father's residence is given as Cowbridge which is approx. 30 miles from port Talbot :-S

I think it would be helpful to have the link to previous info also?

this is a link to Port Talbot Historical Soc perhpas they could shed some light on it or know of old directories where it may be listed.

Often a seperate building within a bigger complex from years ago was given a house name, such as a common one Ivy House.One Ivy House I know of was used instead of the hospital/workhouse in which grounds it stood.

I had a look through that Port Talbot Historical website but there was nothing about Aber House

very often workhouses became hospitals - St. David's Hospital here in Cardiff was once the workhouse

Neath Port Talbot Hospital is a major acute secondary care 270-bed hospital located in Port Talbot, Wales. It is sited on Baglan Moors beside Afan Way.



It was built to replace the demolished Neath Hospital. The hospital was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on February 3, 2003.[1]

friendlywelshdragon if you go to keefsafe, hover the cursor over the photo, you will see over the image 'edit''move' d'delete' , click on'edit' and on the right hand side under 'privacy' there is a drop down menu, where you can select 'share with everyone'.

Hope everyone can see the photo of the certificate now . There was a Morgan family at Aber house Pricetown around the time my great grandfather was born and I did think either they might be related to the family by marriage or that his mother was in service there at the time . but haven't been able to link it up and might be on the wrong track . I did enquire at Port Talbot a few years ago but they replied that the birth certificate was from Bridgend so Aber House must be in that area .
