I'm trying to track down a death that occurred between 1829 (last date for which there is concrete already evidence that the person was alive) and around 1860, when he would have been approaching 100 if still alive. I'm pretty sure I've found my man in 'The Channel Islands' section of the Utah Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Vol 7 for 1916 (in a version available free online), where he's recorded as dying in 1840.

Unfortunately the Channel Islands section in Volume 7 is the second half of an article that started in Vol 6, and is missing all info about the sources of the information provided in the article, and I haven't been able to find Vol 6 anywhere myself. Can anyone here point me in the right direction? Ideally to a soft copy online that I've failed to find - pdf, jpeg or similar, but any kind will do! Thanks.

Would it be worth contacting Familysearch? They may know if a copy has survived and how you can access it.

Thanks for those replies.

The person I'm researching at the moment is Anthony Swinton. I have a huge amount of information about him up to 1828-9, when he more or less disappears from the record. He was transported to Australia for theft in 1814, was still in Australia in 1828, but appears to have been back in London to face and conclude bankruptcy proceedings in 1829. From then onwards there's no sign except for this record of his death in Vol 7 of the Utah magazine:

"1840, Nov 4th. Anthony Duffy Swinton Esq., of Gorget [Gawdy?] Saham Sporle Halls, Norfolk. Age 73 yrs 2 months." The name, reference to Sporle in Norfolk, and age indicate that this is certainly my man. I have no idea what he may have been doing in the Channel Islands at that time.

Try an internet search for CI historical groups? They may be able to point you in the direction of newspaper archives.
"The group consists of Jersey and Guernsey, two or three smaller islands - Alderney, Sark and Herm"

Yes, that's the man. Not to be confused with his son, Anthony Daffy Swinton Jnr who died in India in 1814.

I've tried tracking down CI groups without success so far, but it's something I continue to chase. I've also contacted Familysearch (thanks for the suggestion).

You could click on her name to let her know there is a message on her thread, if no reply

Thanks. It doesn't look as though Lilly's been active for a while, but I'll give that a go.
