I've searched every connotation of spellings even Greenwood's marrying anyone with name beginning with Mc* with no luck.

I'm beginning to think Miss McIlray was herself born overseas ((maybe her own father was in the forces?)

I've now ordered the birth certificate of Stephanie b1963 Yorkshire to see if it gives us any clues. Maybe an address?

If you check the members trees on here a Manuela Greenwood has the names you are looking for. Don't put in a place of birth in the search for them. You could try sending a message.

Hi Jan. Manuela is the lady Im assisting with this search. She has only just set up the tree along with her friend Bev who has also listed.

Unfortunately they know as much as me and thats not a lot ha ha

We get the feeling that Elizabeth Mcilray may have been born in Scotland?

No sign of her on SP, as already investigated.
Lots of McIlroys and other spellings, but no McIlrays.

Thanks everyone. Yes I beginning to think Elizabeth was born elsewhere and married too.

Hopefully the borth cert for her first daughter will help.

**UPDATE** just received the certificate for the first daughter Stephanie GREENWOOD b. dec 1962

It IS the same mother as mentioned on my first post Elizabeth GREENWOOD formerly MCILRAY and father is DONALD GREENWOOD NOT Ronald as mentioned on the certificate for Kim (Eliz's 2nd daughter).

On Kims cert it states Elizabeth is husband of Ronald Greenwood and his army number 23312699 DWR. Father left blank (believed Ronald/Donald not the father)

On Stephanie's cert it says father DONALD with same army number so I'm 99% certain Kim's birth cert contains an ERROR. I'm sure if Stephanie's cert had the wrong fathers name it would have been picked up but as he wasn't the father of the 2nd child it has probably been left incorrect?

Anyway it doesn't seem to have made much difference to all the searches already done as every connotation was tried for MCILRAY marriages, Greenwoods etc etc.

I thought as we have no idea the dob of either parent it may be easier to try to search for just Stephanie now?

I am unable to find any matches on the elec rolls in parents names living together but may have separated or gone abroad?

Hello Cassie, what address is given on Stephanie's birth certificate?

Is it likely that Stephanie was baptised, ...possibly in Catterick Garrison... if the family were soon posted overseas?

Maybe godparents would show in the parish record and possibly these might be close family.

Hi have you searched to find out where the regiment was before Catterick also wonder if it was a second marriage for Elizabeth and she got married using a married surname?

I've already searched (16 July @ 16:29 ) for a marriage of a McIlray and an Elizabeth, and found none.

They may have married in Germany, as also already suggested.

The address of Stephanies birth cert was Military Hospital Catterick.

Im afraid we've no idea if Stephanie was baptised but that maybe something o look into.

I have also searched for any Elizabeth marrying any McIlray but nothing found.

Hi everyone! I am Manuela Hillary (was Kim Greenwood) and have since found out that my birth mum's husband's name (who did not acknowledge that he was my father) is DONALD and not RONALD. I have also got a copy of my sister's birth certificate thanks to CasCas and she was actually born on 18 December 1962 but registered in 1963. I know that Donald's regiment was in Ireland in 1960-61, so given the presumably Irish origin of Elizabeth's maiden name maybe they met and married there?
