No worries Mike, my Tomlinsons have me confused most of the time. I am really looking for a George Tomlinson (occupation blacksmith) and his son John Tomlinson. John Tomlinson supposed to be born Belper Derbyshire 1842/44/50 on different census, i only have `61 upwards, in `61 he was a groom for the rector of Nobury. No trace of either of them before then. Cannot find his birth either. John married Mary Spencer in 1863( my gt grandparents), Little Chester in Derby. Sarah Calladine and John Tomlinson were witnesses. I have the cert. Sarah went on to marry Jabez Tomlinson in 1867 in Little Chester. Now the reason i`m looking at Jabez Tomlinsons family is, someone suggested to me that maybe John Tomlinson was not born in Belper. But the family moved there when he was a baby, so he put Belper on the census. So it got me wondering Could George (Johns father) and Jabez snr be brothers, therefore making John and Jabez jnr cousins. Could George also have come from Breedon and could John have been born there. I hope i havent confused you too. Sylvia

I'm sorry to have confused you I was only giving a potted History for the other Jabez Tomlinson I had found who I had tracked up to 1861. in Lancashire But now i have found your Jabez from 41 through to the 1861 census which you posted Even if his names differed through out down as Taber and I see he's down as John on the 61. ..... and I could only get him through Rebbecca in 1851...... Sorry again for confusing you MIKE. xx.....Smacks wrist & grabs coat exit's sharp right >>>>>>

Hi Mike, I'm not sure how you are geting on with the WHELBANDS. As I said before I am trying to find the link between the Nottingham and Leicester Whelbands. The furthest back that the Nottingham Whelbands go on Ancestry is John Whelband b1789. His place of birth is given as Thurgarton in Nottingham. However, I'm wondering if maybe he said Thurmaston or Thurcaston, and the census man misheard him. When Johns daughters were christened, John and his wife Mary were entered as Welbourn! but his daughters are both Whelbands when they got married. Not sure whether this helps or confuses! Judith

Thanks Mike - that info is really helpful. I had some of their other childrens baptisms, but sometimes Ann is called Elizabeth. But I know they are all the same people because I have seen their grave stones (and Theresa is their daughter so thats really great.) Do you know if you have to be a member to buy the disks?

thanks Mike - the first one is definately them! The second one I think is his cousin, because I know he married Ann Wilson (that was her maiden name) because of various wills and used as middle names. Maybe they married somewhere else - these things were sent to try us. Once again, many thanks! (is it through the Leicestershire FHS that I can buy the disks? and do you know how much they are - I hate to keep pestering you - sorry!)

Greeting’s & Welcome Carol.. I’m sorry but all those Villages come under Nottinghamshire Although Sutton Bonington is one of those which are on the boarder of either Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire I did have a look at what I could but on line info started 1785……. You will have to look at the Parish Registers for those early years 1500’s If you can get to a LDS Centre you’ll be able to order Fiches to cover the years And then look at them ( There will be a charge for this and they hold the fiches for 28 days for you ) Or Elaine might just be able help ? I am trying to find any information on family named Savage of Sutton Bonnington, Bunny, East Leake and surrounding. Rev. John Savage and his son Thomas, both of whom were Rectors at Sutton Bonington. John was born about 1557, and Thomas in 1595.
