Hi Deb The ordering system is very fast these days, but it is worth booking in advance, just to ensure that nobody else takes the document out. You don't need a photo for the ticket Get the train from Clapham Junction to Richmond and change there either onto a tube or the silverlink train. One stop to Kew Gardens. I'm reckoning on catching the 8.28 Reading train from Clapham (connections permitting!) to be at Kew by 9am. It's a very easy journey.

Hi everyone!!! I am just trying to get organised for Saturday.....Just a couple of things I need to ask 1) Is it best to pre-order records? 2) Do you need a photo for your readers ticket? 3) Any idea how long the train journey is from Clapham Junction? 4) Any tips for a first timer??? Look forward to meeting you all Deb

Hi Brenda, Still hoping to make it but I just checked TNA and it would seem they only have one record that relates to my family and it's apart of the burnt docs - Great:-( Deb

Hi Brenda, I'll see you on Saturday. Not sure what time I'll be arriving at the moment as I'm not sure if Chris would like me to meet her again. Chris where are you???

Last calls for the trip. I have to attend a funeral on Friday, so my last chance to read any messages will be Thursday afternoon. If this is your first trip, please make sure that you have the right identification with you, so you can get a reader's ticket. We meet in the foyer, just opposite where the security men check the bags, so you can't get lost if you turn up by 9.30. When the National Archives open, I will be in the microform room, wearing a name label, if not the GR t shirt. This is where you can look at WW1 soldiers' records and other popular records. If you do have problems, please put them on this thread, rather than pming me. The site is erratic at the moment and I don't have much time to read and respond to messages while I'm at work. Hope to see you all on Saturday Brenda

NB To everyone who has pm'd me. The board is running really slowly today, I'm at work (ie supposed to be working!) and am leaving at four as I have visitors. Please forgive me if I don't reply today, and if your query is a general one, would you add it to the thread, so I don't forget you. (I have a horrid habit of thinking that opened messages are answered messages)

Lyla We would start the day in the microform room on the first floor and I usually stay there till lunchtime. If my diet continues, I may be able to cram myself into my GR t shirt. Otherwise, I will wear a label and bring them for everyone else as well.

Hi Donna The service record won't tell you that, though it may have useful information. There are four reels of microfilm for James Grants in WO 363, and several other places to look. Is it the service records you want, or the war diaries? For the latter, I have a feeling you need to know the individual battery. (I can cope with naval records, but go to pieces over the army. I just don't understand how the system works.) NB feel free to add to this thread, or pm me, but I'm about to leave for home, so won't have access till tomorrow.
