Would love to hear similar stories!!! My GGG Grandparents were born in Bristol in the early 1800’s. I recently had someone from GR get in touch asking for further info on them as they were also her GGG Grandparents I was able to pass on info that I had found and said I was awaiting their marriage cert We started to send E-Mails back and forth and she said that she had: Grown up in Horsham, West Sussex and now lives in Crawley West Sussex. I nearly fell off the chair, and wrote this back: I Grew up in Crawley, West Sussex and now live in Horsham, West Sussex. WHAT A SMALL SMALL WORLD!!!!

I know what you mean...I live in Essex and went on holiday to Dunedin in the very south of the South Island of New Zealand and booked a trip out to the albatros colony. There were just two couples on this trip, us and one other. During the day we exchanged in and it turned out that her godmother who lives in Cheshire, was our best friend.... whooooo whooooo. Kathlyn, That is indeed spooky and proves once again that it is indeed a very small world!! x

Brenda Report 2 Jun 2006 17:33

It's a very small world, and by doing genealogy on here we're making it smaller!! I expected to eventually make contact with other relatives in the Durham area at some point..... what I didn't expect was to make contact with someone with my direct line who was born in the same hospital I was and who grew up in a little village called Sacriston, which is about 3 miles away from the village where I grew up. I also received contact just last week from another lady, on my mums side, who also lives in Sacristion and has done all her life. And about 2 months ago my best friend moved back to Durham to be closer to her parents...... and moved into Sacriston! Oh well, at least I'll save on petrol next time I'm in Durham as they're all in one place!! Brenda

I had the opposite where I was emailing a new cousin who lives in Christchurch (Dorset) and I said, Oh you're only a mile from me, so maybe we could meet?! Turned out she wasn't in Dorset, she was in New Zealand! LOL Merry

I have a friend from my schooldays in Cheshire with whom I had not had any contact for over 25 years. When we foudd each other again on the internet we started discussing our origins. It turned out that his grandmother was from the same small village in Yorkshire as my grandmother, and guess what, they were best friends! I believe we may also be related - we have the same uncanny reoccurance of the same surname and christian names in our trees. So far have not found the link. Then, while looking on bmd indexes for the death of my grandfather who I had never known and with whom my father had no contact after the age of 6, I found him. The entry for his death was immediately after the one for my father, - they died at opposite ends of the country! It did make me go a bit goosepimply. Carole

Not exactly the same but... On my father's mum's side they came from Durham and when my mum and dad settled in South Nottingham they thought nothing of it. Turns out my dad's maternal grandfather's family came from the SAME area of South Nottingham that my parents and I live in now. We had no idea. Not only that but my paternal grandfather's family came from Poland, but he was born in the south of England. I've recently made contact with a fourth cousin on my mum's side who was born in the south of England and moved to Europe, on the borders of Poland and Germany. Kirsten

Just it keeps coming up - births, deaths, marriages, baptisms, burials, I think I have it for about 10 different people in one line, my Colwood's, the mum had son on 22nd of November, she was 22 November, married on 22nd November. Spooky.........

I read somewhere that our ancestors live in imprint on their descendants who sometimes go to a particular place for no apparent reason. It's something that we don't do consciously. Same with me Tom. 26th is a freaky number in my family. My mum was born on it, I was due on it, three generations of the same family died on it, my grandma died on it, my other grandmother was buried on it, my grandparents married on it, shame my ggrandma was born in the 27th! But my dad and his parents were all born on the same day and month.
