My 3gs' births ranged from 1792 to 1832 (the one I know was around in 1901 was born in 1822, and there are some others I haven't managed to track down who might have been on it too). None of my grandparents was around in 1901 although two were quite close (born 1903 and 1904). 2gs go from 1837-1860, 1gs 1878-1897 - the youngest of them I actually met, although I didn't get much opportunity to quiz her about her life and family, since I was six months old at the time and she died a few weeks later.

This one is definitely firmly embedded in my mitochondrial DNA, every female relative does it and I've noticed my daughters have started doing it too... Take half a cold, cooked potato. Put it carefully on a saucer and put an inverted cup over it. Place it at the back of the fridge. Remove it and throw it away some six weeks later, when it has gone all slimy and furry. Olde Crone

My tree caused quite a stir within my family, some lifted eyebrows from the older folk and sniggers behind hands from the younger ones. I must have nearly as many ancestors born over the blanket as those conceived under it. However it has been the dominant male side that has bestowed many of their more unattractive features to our generation, very long legs and odd big toes from all the men on my dad's side and the nose, Oh that nose, from my maternal grandfather. At least I know for definite who my parents are! All my dad's family are the most argumentative lot I have met, but funny with it, I can remember as a child, sitting in awe of my dad's brothers and sisters, 6 of them, discussing their parentage and other family stories at family do's. I just wish I had written it all down. Oh and hair!!! what a mare!! All of us have the same blinky hair, never knows it's place, I dread going into hospital, I wouldn't dare have anyone visit me!! Kat :)

LOL is that a challenge??!! Well given I'm 20 year older than you....I have three 3xg-grandparents alive in 1881 (aged 77, 79 and 91), and I always consider my family is full of older parents. All the fifth and sixth cousins I am in touch with are a generation older than me! My furthest back 3x-g-grandparent was born in 1748! LOL Merry

Yes Merry, it's the same me... it hadn't escaped my notice that I appear to be slightly below the average age for a GR member. I'm probably about the only person on here with a 3great-grandparent who was still around in 1901. Michael, aged 20 1/3

Lol!! thought you were going to say you needed a boy to go with your buoy. As for the straight jackets......I think they are needed elsewhere on another board. :-))

Merry Report 1 May 2006 11:23

LOL Rebs.....I go there to READ a lot!! but hardly ever to post! I think there's a lot of people on General who just don't realise how many people are viewing what they write....... When they get stroppy they start blaming one another (such as for thread deletions) and it doesn't seem to occur to them that threads can be deleted by people who are not posting. (YES, I have done that, but only once.......on my occasion, luckily no one noticed the thread had gone!! LOL Invisible to the end, that's me!) Merry (with a life jacket to complement the straight jacket I wear on other occasions!)

Hiya Tina. I'd like to know who's responsible for my temper, or worse, the stoney silence and death stare I employ when I'm really angry. hehe!!! Hope Merry doesn't venture over there, she'll be needing a life buoy, not swim rings in there at the moment.

Hi Rebs It's always (well nearly always!) safe over here. I've warned you before about risking your life on the Gen Board, but you just won't be told, will you girl! Mind you, I think most of us on this thread have been taken over by aliens who overnight have transformed us from the young, slim, desirable people we know ourselves to be, into bad-tempered old replicas of our grandmas. Still, even so, it's preferable to the fate that awaits you in THE OTHER PLACE. Tina

I love you lot. I've been sitting here most of the day, getting a headache, trying to find my blasted Ketleys and Hubands. Every time I get a lead, someone tells me they don't belong to their lot. I think it would be cheaper to get on a plane and come over and find them. Then I read this thread. And it's ME. That old lady that gets in the way of the mirror. Grandma's dodgy shaped toe. I've got the lot. But, I've forgotten about my rellies that put Devon and Essex on records. I wonder if they were ever there. I haven't laughed so much in ages. Thanks.

For a second there I thought Olde Crone was my relation as my g-granny used to horde brown paper, string, paper bags etc etc, but the difference was, she didn't throw the items away six months later! Michael, I'm afraid you are TOO YOUNG for us to want to look at your photo!! (If you are the Michael who said he was only five at the 1991 census??).........it would be too upsetting! LOL Merry

If anyone's really desperate to see a picture of me (although trust me, it's better not to), there's one on http://www.circularchess(.)co(.)uk/2005tournament.htm.

Old Crone, the same mad old woman keeps appearing in shop windows when I walk by and of course it cant be my reflection because I am a slim 28 year old with smooth skin - not a middle aged lump.

I spent ages smoothing out paper bags, carrier bags etc, then carefully putting them in a drawer and then throw them away some six months later! I save old sheets to cut down into pillowcases (I have yet to make a pillow case). I find myself fingering clothes in shops and saying to anyone in earshot 'shoddy rubbish'. Just like my mum. I have developed this annoying habit on BENDING SHOES to make sure they're soft and flexible , my Daughter is mortified that i keep doing it...on reflextion SO AM I...Its something my Mum always did,and I would only be allowed a pair of shoes if they passed the BENDY test !!! ahhhhhh!
