I fall at the first hurdle. Born in South Yorks, parents from Norfolk & Scotland. Each of my siblings born in different place. Oh & we all live 200 miles away from our closest sibling ... just to keep up the continuity. Is there a booby prize on offer, lol?

My dad was the first of his lot to move away--one line originated in Notts-another Yorkshire-mums irish-I'm a pedigree mongrel really -BUT- wait for it--I've just found someon doing the Gibson line of my tree and guess what--it's back to 1630 and all from CoDurham--mostly the Lumley area moving to Sunderland are in late 1800's. but all Durham on that line--does that count? and how lucky was I to find all of that data--I'm off to Lumley to grave hunt soon and try and find out a bit about them, oooh I love genealogy and history!!! sad anorak that I am !!! lol Carol

I think the prize will have to go to Clare (Orangeblossom in 2nd place) and quick before the Crone gets here with 128 5x-great-grandparents born in the same house, or something!!!!!!! Now, the prize is..........a free trip to the National Archives at Kew!!! I will supply one pair of shoes made by one of my ancestral cordwainers (NOT shoemakers, Jess!)..... they are slightly worn, but should get you from Cornwall.....it's not far...... When you get there, I need you to search the entire archive for my great-uncles army record, which they may have LOST!!! They asked me on the phone today if he was ''Anyone Important??'' .........I said, ''Well, he is to me''!! LOL Happy Hunting everyone! Merry

An Olde Crone Report 21 Apr 2006 23:46

Oh, its not fair! You devised this game to deliberately exclude me, didnt you!!?? (Throws self on floor, howling loudly, drumming heels). I fall at the first hurdle. Dad born Lancs, Mum born Scotland. BOOO HOOOO not fair not fair not fair. Now if it was a straight line thingy, well, that's different of course - the Holdens sail magnificently back to 1179, all born and bred in Lancs. My maternal GGM also rolls back seamlessly to 1554 (proven) and 1420ish (a pretty positive sighting) in a small village in Cheshire, which of course encompasses every one of her ancestors. Now, there was me thinking that you'd seen this, Merry! Channel 4 Television series - THE FACE OF BRITAIN Imagine if a simple DNA test could show that you're descended from a Viking warrior, a Saxon farmer or Norman invader. This is what a pioneering project by Oxford University and the Welcome Foundation plan to do for the whole of the UK; and Channel 4 is going to follow the entire process. This new Channel 4 series is called THE FACE OF BRITAIN and the programme production company Wag TV are currently seeking families who know a lot about their family history but would like to delve even deeper and have their DNA tested to reveal their ancient roots. To qualify you and at least two generations of your family must come from one of the following regions: Cornwall, Devon, Pembrokeshire, Oxfordshire, Kent, Sussex, Northumbria, Cumbria, Orkney If you would be happy to have a simple DNA test and have your family history delved into on television then please contact Wag TV as soon as possible. Email [email protected] or call Sorrel on: 0207 688 2166.

My friends family are all from Sheffield in Yorkshire - That is her parents, grandparents, Gt grandparents and Gt Gt grandparents - back to the late 1700s every generation - does that make her the winner?
