I ordered 2 by post just over 2 weeks ago, one came back within a week and half, but hubby's dad's birth cert hasn't come, the cheque was cleared in my bank on Monday but still no cert yet. It's a surprise for him so is very frustrating for me lol!! Ordered 2 more online yesterday and they said despatch date 22nd March, I had hoped it would be quicker, but they are obviously very busy judging from comments on here, might call about hubby's though, just in case.....

Hi: I ordered a birth cert. Feb. 15, 2006 and it was supposed to be sent out Feb. 27th. Haven't received it yet, very disappointed. I live in Canada so knew it might take longer. I e-mailed them last night and haven't heard anything yet. I hope it comes today. Shiela

I ordered a marriage certificate on Wednesday 8th March, the first for a while and I was told by the helpful lady on the 'phone that I should expect a wait of about three weeks. She asked me to take in to consideration that this time of year is always busy with people booking their holidays and needing to order certs. for passport applications etc. I would like to know more about the alernative method of obtaining certs. from registary offices? Can somebody fill me in please?

Hi Lyndsey As far as I know you can still apply direct to the registry office the cost is roughly the same as the GRO. Best to ring them & check how long it will take I think. :0) Joan

They're obviously having problems! I ordered my cert on 27th and they charged me twice!! I have just been credited the amount back but no sign of any certs yet! Might be worth checking your credit card details if you haven't already as apparently there was a problem on 27th/28th. Louise

Sheila Report 10 Mar 2006 14:14

I did email the GRO about mine and the reply was that with all the programs on TV giving new interest in researching your family tree they have had a lot more response for certificates, it arrived the next day so maybe I had nudged them a little quicker Just so you all feel a little better about your certs being late arriving, I waited 4 months for one from Dublin, Ireland I thought it would never come, bless them, they have a slower pace to us Sheila

Wahayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's arrived at last - partner just called and there's a cert in the post - he's been banned from opening it for me - think it might be a bit emotional - death cert for my great grandad who died 11 months after I was born aged 90. I have pics of him on my wall, with me at my christening and portraits of him and his wife taken at my grandparents wedding in 1924. Oh well, only an hour and a half before I can go home!!!!!!!! Have a good weekend everyone. Looby

The marriage certificate I ordered on the 8th March was delivered today! That's 17 working days but feels much longer!! My 'hunch' was right and I'm one step nearer finding another cousin of my Mother's. HOWEVER, can't find any children from the marriage so have now had to apply for the death certificate to find out who registered the death...estimated date of arrival 26th April. If that date is correct it will arrive while I'm away on me hols...making it an even longer wait....
