thanks guys. i have a feeling with esther though, ann and rees' children were; mary gwen (my gran), esther ann!!, betty, edward, john, william and rees(who died 1940 age 31),that much i do know.thought the esther may have been an aunt, through marriage to lewis. rees and ann's 1st child was llewelyn lewis(thanks merry!).hmmmmm!

there might not be a direct proof in the records. There's a birth reg for Anne Perkins, Sep qtr 1876, but the father's name is going to be a blank. The father's name on the marriage cert might be a blank as well, or it might be a made-up name (small bet on 'Lewis Evans'). Then, if the Beynon/Perkins marriage pans out, you've got Esther losing a daughter and gaining a servant, but you'll have to rely on the half-sister connection to prove they're the same person. There's an issue about when Jennie was born. Finding her death would be useful

hi robin, i wonder if jennie on 1901 census is her?says born 1889. i remember visiting jinnie now through childhood, but didnt really know who she was! she was still alive 1973 and was a tiny woman who looked like mrs pepperpot.i cant recall visiting her after that, but then i'm only just getting memory jogs now.she still lived in village of hirwaun and going by ann thomas obituary jinnie/jennie was married to geo. powell . either 1901 census has misprint or my info was wrong for jennie.

Jane, I have not kept up with your thread....but just noticed your last post..... In England, as least (don't know about Welsh practices!) the name Jinny or Ginny (both with an i) was a diminutive for Mary Jane. Not sure this helps at all!! Merry

FamilyRelatives has a likely marriage, Dec qtr 1917, Merthyr Tydfil, 11a 1473, George Powell, Jennie Beynon. Doesn't immediately help with her age, 18 and 28 would both do nicely

thanks merry, think she was definately jennie. probably called jinnie from our cockney accents!! just re-read obituary, some names setting of bells; most of bearers church people but t.mort (thomas, called him uncle tom but not related, neighbour of my gran) and d.evans. mourners; apart from children were; w, d, and tom thomas, j.perkins, wm thomas, miss k thomas.why did i not question all these thomas names!! and the evans and perkins too. the hunt starts again.

Genuki's gazetteer has this one County Glamorgan OS Grid ref SN907078 Parish or Township Cadoxton Juxta Neath Place Pontneddfechan (or Pont Neath Vaughan) so Nell is definitely right about Rees's birthplace. Cadoxton Juxta Neath parish was a church parish but not a civil parish. And it was a long thin parish -- Pontneddfechan is 10 miles up the valley from Cadoxton itself. The civil parish covering Pontneddfechan is called Neath Higher in 1891 and Neath Upper in 1881. Either of these, or maybe Glyn Neath, appearing as a birthplace would be a match. The description for Neath Higher/Upper enumeration district 4 mentions cottages at Pontneathvaughan. The problem is the same as at Login -- the name of the hamlet doesn't appear in the census addresses, so it doesn't show up in database searches Might have more luck searching for Rees's father, if his name and occupation are given on Rees's marriage cert and we believe them. If Rees is also in the censuses under his mother's name or his stepfather's name then it might be difficult

nell, robin, merry, jess. you geniuses!! ann beynon was in fact ann evans but was calling herself beynon. esther perkins was her mother and did marry lewis beynon. jennie beynon was my jinnie, she married george powell, they had a son david who died age 3 weeks, no more after him. poor jinnie was always deemed lower than ann by ann's children when all along ann was the illigitimate child!! even tho the beynons are not mine now i've had contact with some who are filling in gaps for me. login has a cemetary that has lots of generations of perkins in it so i'll be off to wales in a few weeks, (once my morgans unravel) i think i have found rees, but need to confirm with certs. cant thank you all enough for the superb detective work, nell, pontneddfechan is 2 miles from high street where rees and ann lived via a dirt track!! well done all of you, jane x.
