Jenny - do you want them born there, or 'being' there. is it Northampton itself or one of the villages? ..not that there are many to chose from! ~Jess~

The Bag

The Bag Report 11 Apr 2005 07:53

david, not sure that these are the same pair - there ages are too far out for one. how old are you hoping for caroline /mary to be in 1871?

The Bag

The Bag Report 11 Apr 2005 08:06

Jenny not being critical, but with names as common as James Elizabeth and Taylor, please can you confirm birth places and where in the New forest they may have been.

Hi Jess, thanks again for the look up. The Yates Yates you found in the 1891 and 1901 (family of) are definitely him. Is the one in Haslingden the only one in the 1871. I have looked in the 1881 and he is there again along with 5 others of the same name!!! but in different places. Imaginative lot when it came to naming children weren't they? Gloria

Christopher Report 11 Apr 2005 09:08

Hello Jess, Re the Madden look up you did for me last week. It would appear Rambo did think I was duplicating my request re James and Sarah Maddens family. Would you be so kind to search 1871 to 1901 Census for John Madden and Ann Madden (nee Farrell). John is the brother of James Madden. John Madden Ann Madden (nee Farrell) Mary Madden Born 1881 and living at 6 Wheeler Row. Thanks for any help you can offer. regards, Christopher

Jenny, the Grovers are not obvious on 1901 - did they have any other children besides Thomas? 1881 Grover, Louisa J 34 Ashtead, Surrey Wife Farnham Surrey Grover, Thomas 30 Farnham, Surrey Head Farnham Surrey Grover, Thomas A 5 Bourne, Surrey Son Farnham Surrey

The Bag

The Bag Report 11 Apr 2005 09:22

Christopher - apologies for that. can you post full details of this new couple The Madden family in question lived in Leeds. I know Mary Madden was born in 1881 and was registered as living at 6 Wheeler Row. Her parents John Madden and Ann Madden (nee Farrell) I have no idea where they were born. I believe they would appear from 1871 census in Leeds and I would believe they came from Ireland as all the other Maddens did. Could you look from 1871 to 1901 to confirm address and children born to John and Ann Madden.

Sprack Report 11 Apr 2005 09:44

I think they had 5 children, florence hilda who died last week, hughie who I think was born in 1904 and 3 others, hilda thinks one was called percy but I cant find a birth for a percy grover but I cant find them myself on the 1901 . jenny

David Report 11 Apr 2005 10:07

Hi Jess Re George and Caroline Sherriff. I think Caroline Mary is the first wife, Mary the second. Age of Caroline in 1871 would be about 39 and George anything from 47. I have come across other census' where the ages are up to 5 years out. As well as incorrect ages on marriage certs. Not been able to find a marriage cert for either. Both 1861 and 1881 give George's occupation as Hawker, but his son's marriage cert gives it as General Dealer. Thanks Jess, regards david
