Dear George,

Thank you so much for bringing this thread up again. Just this week I have found a family member who enlisted with COEF in 1915.

All my attempts to find him as a British serving soldier had failed, and now I have found him as a Homes child ,sent to Canada in 1906, which explains why he enlisted in Toronto in 1915.

And I have claimed him on the website above

If you have a child migrant who was sent overseas, please consider claiming or adding them in to the database on the British Home Child database as it increases the chance of a connection being made between you and someone else who may be connected to that child who may view the site. There are currently 11213 entries in the database, is your relative one of the unclaimed??

I don't know whether this has been mentioned -- haven't read the entire thread -- but another place to search for male child migrants who were of an age to be in WWI is in CEF attestations. My Uncle Charlie (my grandmother's sister's husband), sent to Canada in the early 1900s, who appears as a farm labourer in the 1911 census at the age of 17, stated he was a farmer on his attestation paper, and I knew him as a child, in the 1950s/60s, as a successful farmer who lived long and prospered. ;)

if any site member has an ancestor sent to Canada as a child by a Workhouse
you may find their placement inspection report on this site. Even if you don't they make fascinating reading anyway.

If you have not yet added your child migrant then please consider doing it today, as the more children that get added/claimed by researchers the more the chance of connections being made between people who may have an interest in that child but are not aware of each other.
