Kevin, Can't find an Emily Meredith born Birmingham, however, did find one born Wolverhampton, father James Meredith - horse shoe manufacturer and one born Codshall Staffs, servant Are either likely do you think?

Sinead Report 19 Sep 2003 14:16

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 14:20

Jim RG12/496, Folio 131, Page 26 Deptford St Paul, London 47 Bolt Street James Medhurst, head, mar, 54, Mariner Seas, Greenwich Ann Medhurst, wife, mar, 52, Deptford There is a William Medhurst 23yrs (nephew) with a Charles Medhurst in Greenwich - could that be your William John?

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 14:31

Hi Sinead, Drawing a blank on this one I'm afraid. There are no Roles at all. Have found Rowles, Rowls, Rolls, Rolles, Ralls and Rawles in Glamorgan but still no Frederick. Do you have any other forenames I can search?

Unknown Report 19 Sep 2003 14:33

Lucy, all three could indeed be mine. I will have to find the marriage of James & Annie. Could you give me the details of the Charles Medhurst household please? Jim

Sinead Report 19 Sep 2003 14:37

Thanks Lucy-how did I know he wouldn't be there!Unfortunately, all I can confirm at the moment is his name and his father's (also Frederick Roles).I'm not even sure of his year of birth- on his marriage certificate he gives his age as 20 but according to the gro indexes in his year (1878) there were no frederick roles born-there was one born in 1877 in Edmonton and one born in 1880 in coate somerset and as yet i have to verify which one he could be.But thanks anyway!

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 14:53

Jim, I think it's time I took a break! Head of household is not Charles Medhurst it's Thomas! RG12/509, Folio 131, Pages 33 & 34 Greenwich London 18 Grove Place Thomas Medhurst, head, mar, 41, carman, Greenwich Anne Medhurst, wife, mar, 41, Greenwich Charles Medhurst, son, sing, 17, Labourer at brewery, Greenwich Louisa Medhurst, daur, 14, domestic servant, Greenwich Edith Medhurst, daur, 10, Greenwich Ethel Medhurst, daur, 5, Greenwich Henry Medhurst, son, 3, Greenwich William Medhurst, nephew, 23, Maltster, Greenwich

Unknown Report 19 Sep 2003 15:05

Thank you Lucy, You deserve a break. You are more than a star, you are the bestest supernova in the universe. It looks as if my William may have been living at his Uncle's to be nearer to work. Jim

Lilian Report 19 Sep 2003 15:44

Hi Lucy, When you have time, please look for Edward Higgins Ralph (Higgins may have been omitted on the census) in Liverpool, possibly the Everton district. He would be about 25 in 1891, living with wife Catherine and possibly some children or other relations. He was born in Liverpool. Many thanks, Lilian

Shirley Report 19 Sep 2003 15:53

Hi Lucy Could you look up a Mary Martha Simpson c 1838 born Clapham, Surrey. The Last address I had was 17 Prospect Pl. Rotherhithe, London. She could have daughter Emma (Emily) Sarah Simpson c1872 still living with her. Thanks Shirley.

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 16:20

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 16:28

Lilian, Would Edward definitely be married. I've found an Edward Ralph, born Liverpool, age 28, seamen, living in Everton with his mother Jane and sister Mary. Could this be him?

Kevin Report 19 Sep 2003 16:33

Hi Lucy Cancel the last lookup I asked for but could you get me the details for the Emily Meredith you found at Codshall Staffs Servant please and I will take it from there. Thanks for the help again. Kevin Phillips

Linda Report 19 Sep 2003 16:43

Thanks for the instruction, I'll try that now

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 16:49

Kevin, Have just realised that if I don't put in a county of birth but just a town different results get thrown up so have found another Emily for you: RG12/2077, Folio 97, Page 20 Moorcote Farm, Stansbatch, Pembridge, Herefordshire Emily Meredith, serv, 17, General Servant, Birmingham Head of house - Eleanor Mainwaring, Farmer RG12/2225, Folio 4, Page 2 Gravel Hill, Wormbourne, Staffordshire Emily Meredith, serv, 20, Nurse Domestic Servant, Codsall Mary Meredith, serv, 26, cook domestic servant, codsall Head of house - Henry Hill, maltster and farmer

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 17:46

Hi Shirley, Having a bit of trouble with this one - it's really difficult when sometimes the places are classed as Surrey and other times London. The best I can come up with for the moment is: Mary M Simpson, 52, sing, daur, b. Camberwell Living with mother Jane Simpson and siblings Jane, Lydia and Kate in Battersea and Mary M Simpson, wife, mar, 53, London Charles G Simpson, head, mar, 57/58 ? fish, London living in Bermondsey

Shirley Report 19 Sep 2003 18:08

Lucy I am sorry I gave you so litle to go on. I think Mary M Simpson could be the one. The age is right. In the 1881 census She was down as married but no husband was present. I wonder if the G after Charles is Glover? That would clinch it. Shirley

Emma Report 19 Sep 2003 18:16

Shirley, The address for Mary and husband Charles is 20 Linsey Street, Bermondsey. It looks like a multi occupancy house the other families are: Frederick White, Mary White and Walter Land John Potter and Amy Potter Just in case they're related.
