Any further news Jenny? You are a gem.

Hilary Report 1 Apr 2008 06:35

Morning Jenny, anymore news. We are now having problems with our parents. My in-laws have a lady living next door to them who is just like you & we are so grateful. We live 1/2 an hour away so she is on hand much quicker than us. That daughter wants a good kick up the backside, wonder who will look out for her when she reaches her 80's. My parents also in their 80's have always looked out for their neighbours, always said there would'nt be any one to look out for my parents when they needed it. Our last old neighbour passed away 2 weeks ago but I do have family close by. I do hope J is a bit better today. Carry on caring Jenny.

*~*~ Maisie from Wales. *~*~ Report 2 Apr 2008 16:14

I have just read this thread and am lost for words regarding the daughter!! She should be there with her Mum and Dad. After my lovely Dad died and a few years later my precious Mum was diagnosed with the on set of Alzheimer's I went every day to my Mums Mon till Fri then my Sister did the w/ends. When Mum became worse I had Mum with us but of course it made her worse as she didn't know where she was bless her. I went and lived with her all week until in the end she had to go in to hospital and from there she went to a lovely Care Home where she still is and is so well looked after..... This is what their daughter should be doing for them....
What goes round comes round, well known saying and so true!!
Jenny you are being an absolute angel and well done on you. You are a shining example of a wonderful neighbour.
Take care Jennie and let us know how J is going on please.
Love Maisie x

Mommylonglegs Report 3 Apr 2008 08:09

Have not been across much as the Home Care team are now going in 3 times a day. I think J must be on some stronger medication now as she is sleeping a lot.
The Daughter was back at work on Wednesday but she has been to see her parents each evening.
The Husband has just got up, rather worried for a while as he is usually up at 5am.
The other Daughter that lives in London is due to visit next week.

Thanks for your concern.

Jenny, busy painting and decorating yet again. xxx

Sue Report 3 Apr 2008 09:21

I have read the whole thread and wanted to send you a massive (((((((((HUG)))))))) for caring for your neighbours.

I nursed my terminally sick sister at home until she died and I know how frustrating and difficult this time is.

We had no help apart from her GP and a district nurse (which we had to fight for). Fortunately her GP trusted me to let him know how much she was deteriorating every couple of days as my BIL was not capable. He was very helpful in prescribing a syringe driver when I asked for one, he was marvellous (but sadly a rare breed).

But WHY are we all let down so much by the NHS when we reach a certain age?

Your neighbour should have a care team in place to make her as comfortable as possible. Economically it's a lot cheaper for her not to be in hospital so ALL available resources should be engaged. Plus her husband should have moral support to help him understand what is happening and what is likely to happen.

For God's sake where is the compassion in our health care system?

As for the daughter comment.

People like you are to be admired, I know how emotionally draining this is for you.

Take care

Sue xx

Germaine Report 3 Apr 2008 09:44

Hi Jenny I have just seen this and read it all.
You are an angel .
As for the daughter well words fail me. I had two little ones and before my Dad died and then I brought my mum to me . I was there morning to wash and dress her stayed till dinner called in the afternoon and then back to put her to bed. I had two little ones but never thought it was anything but what I should do for my Mum and Dad. Oh and things got worse but I did it because I wanted to not tha it was easy.
Why are some people so selfish.
There should be more like you Jenny.
I hope the old couple are more settled now.

Hi Jenny, thanks for updating us. Glad the daughter is at least going daily and hope she is making sure her dad is fed etc as well as her mum. Nice that their other daughter is coming, hope she arrives in time.
You take care,

Mommylonglegs Report 5 Apr 2008 08:02

Just to let you know, 'J' is back in hospital again, after a fall at 6am in the bedroom. I called Care Call who came out within 10 minutes. They dedided to call the ambulance. She doesnt appear to have broken anything this time, but I think they decided that she would be better off in hospital. Care Call are ringing the Daughter.
Going to get my much needed cuppa now.

Jenny x

Bless her, Jenny, I am glad she has gone back in hospital for some tlc. It might give the old chap a chance to get some rest and build up his strength too. I hope the daughter will pull up her socks and get more help for her parents, altho to give her the benefit of the doubt, they might be standing firm that they want to stay in their home and not go into care or something.
Now you can get a bit of rest too, except for popping in to see Joseph which I am sure you will do.
