Lindy Report 18 Jun 2008 21:37

If so please pray for my Mum so that she will not be deported.

My family is at it's wits end, especially my baby sister who is 37 and has four children.

Nearly fours year ago ( on 25/11 2004 ) My sister six months pregnant, with two small children and our Mom then aged 71 immigrated to New Zealand. Mom went on a holiday visa which has been extended numerous times...

It is difficult to explain the bond between Mom and baby sister, it's like they are joined at the hip, maybe because Mom and I never had that bond, but sister and I do.

Since the day she was born, when I was eighteen years old, I felt this overwhelming love for her.

Spoilt her rotten whenever Mom was not looking. At the age of six she took a shine to OH when we were still courting. Drove over his shoes with her tricycle while he was waiting for me and has loved him ever since.

We are tutors' of all of her children in the case of their death....

I know that I am going on about my baby sister but if she and Mum were ever parted I don't know what will happen as neither I nor our two brothers have had that kind of relationship with mum...

Both my sister and her husband are active on the school board, and the church, she coaches the rugby team that her son is on. Why ...because her loud voice and accent is heard above everyone else. ...lol...

Also, she coaches the hockey team of her eldest daughter as back home my sister used to be a provincial player...

I have a brand new nephew, a beautiful young nine year old boy who's foster mother, who cared for him since his birth is having serious health problems and cannot take care of him anymore.

He has been permanently placed with my sister and her family ....

So many wonderful people in Dunedin have tried to help my family to try and keep our Mother there. From the depth of my heart I thank all of you.

The appeal board failed Mum's application on the grounds that 50% of her children still live in South Africa and on her medical record.

On appeal, against the appeal board, on humanitarian grounds the minister would make an exception in Mom's case if she passed the physical.

She had failed on the grounds of her heart condition and being an insulinic diabetic.

They are now trying to waiver the medical report, sadly I think that all options have been exhausted.

I am so very thankful for what so many people are doing to try and keep Mum in New Zealand...

If Mum is unable to get a waiver and cannot stay in New Zealand she has to be out by November and go back to South Africa.

Neither of our brothers really want her but without my sister Mum will just wither up and die...

I am really depressed and am going to grab a bottle of beer and watch the sun go down as tomorrow is another day...

Enough of sadness for one day!

Lindy...who hates to feel helpless...

Thank you each and everyone of you...
My heart is filled with sadness but also hope as your words give me hope.

Gillian,

I know of your loss and sadness and thank you for thinking of me...

Julie Ann,

No matter what power you believe in...as long as you believe, this makes the difference.

Caz,

My dear friend, I read the soldier thread and it made me even more sad, and thank God that the children still have their Daddy ...Life is so short and we never know what tomorrow will bring.

May Blossom,

What a beautiful name!
If God is willing all will be well but mankind's help goes a long way...

Lairy-Fairy,

Don't really know what to say to you without going into political details, but the reason my sister left South Africa, and most important could leave as many people don't qualify. Was to give her children a better life...Mum knew that when she left and she would not accept my sister sacrificing the future of her children just to go back with Mum..

Just Jean,

Thank you so very much, your faith is a light in my heart.

Ros, Irishgirl & Ails,

I thank all of you from my heart...

I am off to drink another beer and watch the moon and stars on the roof terrace which I find comforting.

Maybe, if I have one too many tonight I shall get a good nights sleep.

Please continue to pray for my Mum as I really don't know what to do anymore...

Nite nite.

Thank you all for your words of comfort.

Hi Lindy sweetheart - I very much believe in the power of prayer and will say a prayer for you tonight - I will light a candle for you in church on Sunday and put a prayer request in the prayer box. I did this just last week for a dear friend of mine who was very ill far away from home - ended up he had contracted Legionnaires Disease - after spending time in intensive care he came out the other side, has recovered well and came home to Wales today. It does work if you believe it does

All my love Lindy, Ann XXXX
