Hi Jo, the first toe was broken in 1958 and repaired in in81 after developing a huge hammer toe it was bent up so high that all my shoes rubbed on it, much better afterwards, now it's mighty sore again but a different joint this time. The 2 broken ones are about double the size of the others. |

I think we had two or three people from the boards did the same thing a while back. Since I mainly live in toepeg sandals in summer I suppose I should be more careful as I already have arthritis in my big toe on my right foot! Maybe I should get some steel toecapped boots lol |

I broke my big toe when I was a teenager. I was sober too! I had it yanked at the hospital after having 2 large injections, set the bones into place and an elastoplast fastened round it. xrayed too. 3 weeks later they took the plaster off and I was right as reign again. Felt slight twinges in it a bit after but now nothing. |

I broke my two middle toes years ago, and have to shuffle along when I first get up until they seem to 'get in gear'. Not painful after that. |

Joanna - be careful with this toe - if it is doing this now it may get worse. It is a condition called 'hammer toe' - my Mum, had it and had to have her toes broken & pinned (to make them straight) with yukky hooks sticking out the end of her toes - she said it was very painful especially if she banged the hooks sticking out!! She had these pins in for about 5 weeks and then they were pulled out!! |

I must have broken the toe next to my big one, without realising it, a few years ago. |

I broke the 4th toe on my right foot 4 years ago - it was strapped to my 3rd toe & I had crutches for 3 weeks - a big toe will probably take longer as it is the toe that bears your weight!! You have my sympathies!! |
