Eileen, and Ros, I too hate whirlies, much prefer to see a long line of washing billowing in the wind lol
Not so funny when the darn thing breaks but otherwise, is one of my favourite sights, saddo I am!

Ros, I couldn't help laughing at your description of the "scrunched up" underwear.I have to agree with your oh, I have one of those whirlie things, hate it.A nice couple of long lines seem to make the washing dry faster, and less wrinkled.Fine by me, because I HATE ironing.
So, you had the fun of picking bits of tissue from the dark wash too....great, isn't it?

I had tissue in wash the other day -all over dark t- shirts . When my OH puts washing out -doesn`t shake underwear out so it`s on the line all scrunched up -I tell him it`s clean !! Towels are hung longways so take up more space . He put a line up for them as says whirlie no use for drying ,

Hi Liz,

I know what you mean about t-shirts with no side seams.I often hang daughter's washing up, and have done the same thing you do with sil's work t-shirts.
They also used to have some of those things to hang socks etc. on.Very handy when we went camping too!

Am very careful nowadays since I hurt my hands and head quite badly, when shaking out sil and grandson's jeans. The large metal buckles etc. have hit me hard too often.

Don't you just hate finding bits of wet tissues all over the dark wash, when someone has forgotten to take them out of their pocket.I mostly check, but am still suprised sometimes.

Won't even go down the odd-sock trail....

Hi hon, thanks for the tip about the tshirts, I know exactly what you mean as I have done that with some of mine sometimes, but his work t shirts don't have side seams so I pull them to shape and hang from the corners, he doesn't even iron them now as they come out pretty ok. We have some of those plastic hangers that have six hangers on a sort of plastic chain and we hang them from the curtain rail in front of the blind in the spare bedroom so they don't show much and they finish off in there. With all the rain we get it's the only way sometimes, and they hang straight enough to do. He has two choices lol, wear them like that or iron them!
We also have one of those plastic hangers for socks and small things, saves so much faffing about hanging individual socks on the line and if it rains is quicker and easier to bring in.

Liz, I used to do the same with the washing one of my daughters hung out.Hoped to do it discreetly, but she noticed alright, so was not a happy bunny.

My sister gave me a very good tip, which I always follow now.She hangs t-shirts and other tops up by the armpits, i.e, hang the top over the line until you come to the armpits, then peg them. This way, you don't see the peg marks and don't get that funny shape on the bottom hem. Can't explain this better, you would have to see it done.I too, always hang jeans up by their waistband.I always wash and hang dark colours inside out too.Didn't used to though, until someone pointed this out to me.We are never too old to learn, are we?

pmsl at the hanging it out right lol

I keep telling K. bottoms up, tops down rule i.e. hang tops from their bottom hem and trousers from the waist band, always inside out so seams dry quicker, things don't fade when we have sun, and bird droppings make less of a stain lol

After 11 years he is getting there but still not right, he always knows if he hangs things out and I come home before they are dry, I will alter the way they are hanging, amend that I will Correct the way they are hung lol

He had been doing things for himself for a few years after his marriage break up so was sort of organised lol I soon changed that !

He popped in yesterday.I was still amazed and amused at the speed at which he gulps down a scalding mug of tea.He must have a throat made of asbest!

He actually took that pyjama top to the insurance office where we live. The look on the young woman's face when he laid it on the counter was also something to remember. He actually got recompensed for the p.j's!!! Both instances are true, not even slightly 'coloured'.

Everyone must have funny or exasperating tales to tell about washing.

Oh dear, I did not quite get what you meant Claddagh - you have now cleared my foggy brain - pmsl gosh, that is a photograph to behold - I would send it into a national paper! lol

Naughty him, first rule if you are on fire is to drop to the floor and roll over to dampen the flames -he was lucky. Tsk!

At least your OH used two pegs for his, and only one for your knickers, Tina, but can you imagine what it looked like to have a full machine of heavy clothes all hung up on 4 pegs? I made a photo of this to prove to our families that he actually did this.It did make me laugh though.

Glad I'm not the only one who's line breaks, and who turns the air blue.Mine looked more green...

This same man managed to set the back of his pyjama jacket on fire, whilst leaning nonchalantly against the cooker, talking to my aunt.Next thing I knew was the pair of them galloping up to the second story, him with flames leaping up from his back, where I was hanging the washing up.I nearly had hysterics, couldn't stop laughing,My aunt was trying rather futilely to slap the flames out.Why they didn't douse the flames downstairs will forever remain a mystery.

Good afternoon everyone

Boy do I know what its like to have a line full and the blessed line breaks - have had that happen on two occasions I can think of. The air was rather blue I am ashamed to say lol.

As for the way men put out washing - they do it on purpose. I have learnt to zip my mouth. Its amazing how my OH's nickers need 2 pegs but my xxxl nickers only need to be hung with 1 peg. lol

More than 40 years ago, my ex hung the washing out once, and once only.He used 4 pegs for the whole lot. This is true!!! I couldn't believe my eyes to see the 4 'bunches' of clothes. Needless to say, they didn't dry.Maybe this was a clever ploy to get out of having to do this ever again?
How many times have any of you hung a lot of washing out, only for the line to break? Great fun!
