its very accurate, becasue carbon 14 decays at a very precise rate - so it can age something to within 3 or 4 days

So he invented a machine to measure how many years old something was.................but if he didn't have a real relic with an exact age to measure, how accurate is it?

It's carbon dating - the rate of decay of the carbon 14 isotope is the way they measure it, I think....will have to google for an exact explanation.

Its how they dated the fluff in the bottom of Hayleys purse.

I've been on Google.Trees recycle water.They draw it up from the ground via roots and it is release when they breathe.So water that falls where there are no trees is only transpired at a much lesser rate by little plants and is thus able to flow away to another place.

Did anyone watch that program a month or so ago about what would happen to the Earth if people vanished? (1 year, 2 years, 5 years 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, 100 years, 200 years, 500 years, 1000 years etc etc) Not sure of the years but I hope you get the picture.

It was fascinating (well, it was to me ;-)

They can tell the age of dinsosaur bones, etc, by counting the rings on them.
