Anyone ordered any certs from the GRO recently?

I have just ordered 4 certs from the GRO (only because the local office doesn't take phone orders and i live too far away!)

How long on average currently are we waiting for certs? I know i have a dispatch date of 6th Aug, the last time i ordered it was a 3 week wait date!! and they arrived after 4 weeks.... I hate waiting!!

I thought i'd order mine before the next series of 'Who do you think you are' airs... i imagine the delivery time will get extended again!

I'll let everybody know, because I know there is a crowd of at least three people here who are dying to know who the parents of Erna Augusta "Mouch" (just another mistranscription of Monck) were ... since when she was born in 1887 my Ernest Augustus Monck née Hill was in Australia, and who else would name a kid that?

... except his sister, Ada Lennox Monck née Ada Lennox Monck Hill, then Ada Lennox Coke, who was never seen again after the birth of her third child in 1882 and whose husband Charles Henry McCock née Coke the bankrupt rich boy (and their kids) was apparently living with some Canadian hussy named Clare at the time ...

(Sadly, Erna Augusta died in the following quarter, so no censuses for me.)

It's always been about 2 weeks to the colonies here in the past, but I haven't ordered one recently, so we shall see.

I ordered one last Tuesday and it gave me 4th or 5th of August as dispatch date, so next Monday or Tuesday, which I was quite suprised at, so will wait and see!!!

I ordered one last Saturday & I'm still waiting but .................................................................................someone had it already & has sent me a copy!

Just recieved 4.....came within the week......this doesn't happen when WDYTYA is on though....could take a month then........ although I understand they have taken on more staff now.

I would wager they are all people who watch WDYTYA and think it takes 4 hours and 5 mouse clicks to find your entire family going back to 1840.

I would also wager they are all people just wanting birthdates but not actually wanting to buy a cert!!!

Pretty much like most of the newbies on the boards here!!

WDYTYA has a lot to answer for!!

I went to the Records office in Preston last friday and ordered some certs. We picked them up on Monday and they cost £3 each. Photocopies of the registered we found them in. Well chuffed !
There are two marriage certs on each page and so I actually have three certs that may belong to someone else.
Try it, it's fun.

Ahhhh yes Claire, i believe you've actually created something someone else wishes to collect??

Your 9.95 has actually been used to help you create something to be collected by someone else and added to their 10,000,000,000 names already on their tree, all close relations of course and completely in contact with all of them...

Now just to find that elusive John Smith who was born sometime between 1843 and 1913, he was 5 foot 1 blue eyes and had a dog called Rex, do you know him??

I ordered two certs the evening of 26th July and they arrived this morning. On with the search now.

do the scottish ones takes longer, i have been waiting 2 weeks now

Debbie Scottish ones are 20 working days... so 4 weeks!!

(the last ones i had were just shy of 6 weeks)

Tracey mine cert still hasn't turned up so it looks like they are running late

I'm going on Holiday on the 11th... i'm hoping to get it before then, or it's gonna be another week of not knowing (bearing in mind i've been none the wiser for the last 4 years...)

It just seems to not know for 4 years is ok, but as soon as you order the cert you want the given right to know the data NOW!!!!

Oh i have to love the Scotspeeps site for that, you find you wanna know you pay you download...simple!
