I am sorry I have not been on here for a few days,
The reason is two fold. My Army son had a close friend killed while on duty in Afghanistan, he was a captain in the Royal Welsh.
Please say a prayer or positive thoughts for all who have " fallen' ,

Hello all. Yes, weather records seem to be getting made all over the world - although there were no records kept of anything in this country prior to 1788, so how do we know if we are really getting 'unusual' weather?

Hope the curtains came out OK.

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 29 May 2012 12:26

Woke up this morning at around 4.30. Felt determined that I would try to open my bedroom window once again.
It has remained definantly closed for months now, despite my numerous efforts to open it.
Well, I reckon that the "stay-closed" pests were sleeping at 4.30. I just turned the handle, gave a hard push, and Hey Sesamee! it was open!.

A wonderful cool breeze made its way into the room and made me feel great.
I was so pleased that I went downstairs and took down one of the (long) curtains from the french window. No easy task, this, as I had to stand on a chair and reach up high.
Eventually gor one curtain down, removed the (metal) hooks and put washing in machine on a coolish cycle.
Went back to bed.
After a long rest, i put the curtain on the line, then took down the other curtain. On it is a label saying "Dry Clean Only" oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound, as they used to say.
Second curtain is now in washing machine. After all I want the curtains to match don't I.
Have now got red (called fire), orange and yellow streaks in my hair. My homage to the Olympic Torch.
Should be going into town tomorrow to the college to have my feet done.
Usually feel really pampered after my de-lux pedicure.

Berona, I hope that your winter isn't a harsh one.
I wonder if there is any record breaking temps. in the equitorial areas. Especially as there are in both North and South temperate Zones.

Bridget, wonderful news that your (step)son is getting full care ofhis children and his house back.
Things are now looking up for him, at last. I know it won't be easy, but having full care of his children will be so worthwhile and rewarding. I wish him and the children much joy together.

And we had our hottest May day. How they do love these records. Hope your winter isn't too severe then Berona. Looks like our 'summer' is on the wane. cloudy here today and so far cooler. I don't mind the hot days, in fact I love them, but hate the hot sticky nights. Off out with our friend to a garden centre for coffee this morning.

Just popping in to 'show the flag'. Nothing new to report except that we had a reminder a few days ago, that winter is on it's way. Had the coldest May day in history. .. Breaking a record didn't make it feel any warmer! Instead of light cardigans - out came the heavier ones and more woollens - and winter doesn't start until Friday!

Hello everyone, so pleased to see that many of you are still adding comments.
I have been helping two friends with their family tree on another site so not much time to write on here.

Pleased to say that both my OH and I are well and the weather is very good now.
O H gone to UK as his son has had new info about having full care of his Three children so did .he did not make it to the West Ham match although OHs eldest son went over from Amsterdam to see the game so we were represented!!
My stepson has also been told and it has been confirmed in writing that he will get his bungalow back, which his grandma bought him...... We are so relieved.

OH will help him to repair the house and then I think he will sell it and buy something else.....

It is a beautiful day here and I am going to sit in the garden for a while,
So, bye bye for now

Tess - I'm afraid the time frame I talk about is before Census time and I could find no parish records for that period of time.
I'm not sure who sent it to me now as it was a long while ago, but yes, it was a GR member and the ancestors are all English. I just haven't been able to get onto the right records.

I usually get to the point where I am frustrated, so leave it for months - even a year - then pick it up again, and often find that more sites have opened up, or more info is available. Just not so in this instance, though - yet!

Apologies to everyone - it has been two weeks since my last visit. However, I notice we are still talking about the d*mn weather.

I had my 65th Birthday last week - so I should be retiring - but I refuse to. The forms I am filling in for pensions - it's a wonder anyone can fill them in!!!

Good news all round on the football - especially for Bridget's OH - Premiership again - let's hope they can stay up.

Tess - if you use old tree you will find all your information without any trouble, I can't use the new tree at all.

Love to all - keep writing

Bridget, we have had thunder, lightening and hailstones here lately too. Very strange weather.
But not unheard of.

I seem to remember that we had a hailstorm on 1st Junw 1975, the year before the hot summer. 1975 was quite a good summer, however it was suroassed by the glorious summer of 1976.

I think that we had some rather "wintery" weather in May 1976 too, (hail etc).

I bet your OH is pleased that his football team has gone up to the Prem Division.

Gerard, your team did well too, you can look forward to seeing them play in Europe next season. (or have I got that wrong/).

Sorry I am not on the boards much now. Energy still quite low, but am trying to get out of the house twice a week at the moment.

Also working on the family tree, t/f to A-----ry. My GR tree is driving me MAD.
I have been entering new info on the Notes section for various family members. When I come to check it to t/f info to A------
I find that "info hidden by tree owner" Arghhh!
I Am the tree owner, and I haven't hidden the info.
It also hides place og birth, middle name etc.
This is NOT what I pay my membership for.
Seriously thinking of not renewing when my membership falls due.

Have to go as bleeper on cooker has just gone off to say that food is ready.

Hope that everyone is well.

Berona, was this "could be" bigamist living in the UK? Has the person who sent you the tree on GR got both marriage certs.?

Have you bee able to find both families on Census records?

Like you I would be loathe to label someone a bigamist, but wouldn't rule out the possibility altogether.

Am rather low on energy, and snowed under on my paperwork (plus house work) at the moment, otherwise I would be only too willing to help.
In my family we have many cousins with the same name, often born around t he same time. Perhaps this is the case here.

I feel sure that ther are some people of the genes boards who would love to do a bit of detective work on this to solve the mystery.

Tess

I cannot believe my eyes!
I have been on the varandah for a while when within minutes the. Sky turned a deep shade of grey and the rain started, then within a couple of moments the sky went black, and hail stones are falling all around us, the gardens are covered with the hail. The water cannot drain away . As I look out of the window the scene is rather similar to a " white Christmas" in the UK.

Jet and joe hate thunder but they have calmed down and are hiding under my bed!!

The sky is a deep Gray no sign of blue sky and the hail stones are now looking rather like a carpet across what was my garden.

I hope that the roses which have been magnificent this year and my fruit trees do not suffer.

Thank goodness the electricity has not gone off, so we can still have our main meal.

Ooooppppssxxx another huge crash of thunder

Must go and look food the sea, I hope I can see it soon.

It's hard to know what to think when you can't get all the facts from the research. A contact on GR sent me a full family tree of one of my great-grandmothers. However, it shows that her father was married twice - but con-currently! The marriages are only four years apart - but the children are 'numerous', and all being born within the same time-frame, in different towns.

I have been unable to find that there was a relative (cousin?) with the same name as the father - or do I conclude that he was a bigamist? I know it wasn't easy to prove bigamy in those days. If such was the case, I wonder how he maintained all of them? and if not, I don't like to label him as being one! There could be a logical explanation - but I haven't enough facts to make a decision on that.

So sorry not to have been on her for a while....I feel quite guilty as I started it!!!

Nothing wrong just very busy doing nothing as they say. Quiz night, Ten Pin Bowling which is improving week on week, so feeling good about that.
Our UK friends who spend about 5 or 6 months here each year also arrived a few days ago and we have been chatting away just to catch up with their news.

Tess, you have had a busy time and I will say a prayer for your aunt and how exciting to have found some one after such a long time.
I do use the "other" site quite a lot and found someone from my husbands family who we always understood never married and was " a bit of a girl" and this is simply not true.

She went to another part of England and married, had children and sadly died just a few weeks after the last child.

Goodnight and I will be back in the next day or so,

Bridget

Energy is runnung on (nearly) empty at the moment. So haven't spent much time on the chat boards.

Have been concentrating on getting my house ship-shape, adding to my tree on Genes., transfering info to A---ry. Trying my best not to drown under the additional paperwork as I do all this.

Have recently been contacted by someone who was "adopted out of the family" It is rather exciting. His grandfather and mine were first cousins, and lived in the same area at the same time. He has also been put in touch with a first cousin of his. The first cousin has sent him a photo of his (the adopted man's) father!

My lovely aunty, who will be 102 on Sunday is in hospital. She was admitted with an infection. Unfortunately she has not made a full recovery, so is not likely to be discharged back to her own home.
Before her illness she did a lot of her own cooking, laundry dish-washing etc.
The hospital willbe giving her sons advice on a decent Nursing Home for her.
It will be strange seeing her in somewhere other than her usual surroundings. She celebrated her 100th birthday in her local pub, and a good time was had by all.

Gerard, my team is playing yours for the last game of the season...!!!!
I promise not to gloat if we win, if you will do the same.

By baby bro came round today to mow the grass for me. (I'm just not up to it at the moment). Unfortunately, the rather long grass was wet underneath, so he only did a little bit. Then that wet stuff came out of the sky, now all my grass is soaking!

All for now. hope that everyone os well,

Tess :-)

Oh how I agree Gerard, yes lets not talk about the W word, we are all fed up with it now...tired of winter clothes and aching for the sun, perhaps that is why we all don't feel like writing the diary. Nothing much going on, trying to cope with growing wet grass etc etc, and now where nice to go because of the w word.. Lets try to be positive eh !!!

I'm still here - just don't have anything really interesting to talk about - I am sure that the weather and rain are getting us down, but we have stopped talking about them now!!

I hope everyone is well - off to church soon with OH - will say a prayer for all and light a candle for all the sick and needy.

Be on again soon

Where has everybody gone? Hope everyone is enjoying good health and that the weather is kind to you all. Ours isn't bad - typical Autumn for us - at present, overnight temps are down to 8c but rise up to 20c later in the day and whilst there is no rain, this makes a pleasant day for us. We can't grumble at that.
