Hello everyone

I feel a little disappointed that I am the the person who registers the 500th
message so know I am wondering if we will reach the 600th posting.
I know several of you have had difficult times recently so writing on herereally is not in the priority liist and I hope that you are all coping.
Others i expect are on holiday or simply caught up in daily and family life.

When I came home tonight as usual being rather lazy i got into the lift to go to the top floor well OK it is really only the scond floor!!
as the lift started to move I cold hear a buzzing and looked up at the galss covering the light and it was full of BEES! I was terrified and could not stop the lift as it was mid floor. I could not get oouit of the lift fast enough and as I stepped out it was even worse the floor was covered in them ,some deadB UT others were very much alive.
I immediatley telephoned the agent who told me that they had invaded two flats last night!!!
He has visited and sprayed all likley places but I am not sure that I shall sleep tonight.

Anyone have any adivice or have the same reaction as me??

OH not very well he has been out off sorts for some days now and feels very lethargic so I hope it isn't anything to bad. He refuses to see a doctor and tells me he is a fatalist!!
Going to look at some other threads now so hope to hear from someone soon

Blessyou all and keep welll

Bridget,
perhaps, like me, most people thought that you should be posting number 500 on your own thread!

I'm afraid that I am like your OH at the moment, very low energy etc.

Sorry to hear about the bees, it must have been really scary. Have you managed to speak to the other people in the flats who were effected?

In your place I would put away (or cover) anything YELLOW I reckon that wasps are attracted to yellow things, not sure about bees. But it is bestto be on the safe side.

Still hot and sticky in the West Midlands (UK) Just hope that I can get a good nights sleep.

I'm off to give it a go anyway.

Good morning all,

Although it is only 7.30 a.m. here it is quite warm already and this is supposed to be winter!!

I will be off to Grahamstown to-morrow for a few days, as my brother's funeral is on Thursday. I feel very unsettled at the moment but I'm sure that after Thursday that will pass.

I don't like bees either I must say, hope you are free of them now Bridget.

Hope your OH is feeling better now,,if not he should pay the doctor a vfisit.

Have just done the washing, so must go and hang it up. For two people we sure do have a lot of washing!!!!

Take care.

Goof morning
Bridget I thought the same - you should and did post no. 500.

What a shock being stuck in the lift with bees - a month or so ago we were having a bbq on roof terrace and hubby said what on earth is that buzzing noise - on looking over the road a swarm of bees had settled on the roof od the house opposite. Paul went and told the Spanish lady and she phoned the council and out they came within the hour - and it was a Sunday too - it was interesting to see the man put up a ladder on the back of the truck up to the roof were he managed to get all the bees into a box.

Val . will be thinking of you on Thursday xx

Hope your OH is feeling better Bridget - if not make sure he gets to the doctors. Perhaps he is missing his home.

Well sorry must be off - got the dreaded ironing to do before it gets too hot.

Take care all
Love Mary xx

Sorry to hear about your brother, Val. As you say, he is now out of pain, so you don't have to worry about him anymore.
My thoughts will be with you on Thursday.

Will be watching the football, Spain v Potugal in a few minutes.
I suppose that I should really suppor Spain, not just because a few people on here live (or have lived) in Spain, but also because I find that my greatgreatgrandmothers maiden name was (or seems to be ), Spanish!
So looks like I have Spanish blood too.

Will really have to sort out a passport so that I can visit Spain soon (perhaps next year). My passport is out of date, so can't go to many places at the moment.

Hope your OH feels better soon Bridget, and that your Bees have vamoosed.
Encourage him to visit your GP after all, it might be something that is easy to sort out, giving him a new lease of life.

To Val and MaryinSpain and anyone else who reads thia thread.

Val, I shall be thinking of you at the funeral and offering a prayer for your brother and everyone at the service.

OH is still rather low and has a dreadful cold and a high temperature but it is lower than at the weekend. He has always been the same about ill health, only had one day off from work in the whole of his career and that was when he collapsed in the street and suffered Adult Sudden Death! Fortunately it happend within about 600 metres from an ambulance station and so he was dealt with very quickly. He was hospitalised and then discharged himself 24 hours latter....
His mother was a Hypochondriac and this has left him being the direct opposite. He is not a believer so this is our only life and we live and then we die..thats it according to him.

I have learnt to accept this and he is an excellent husband and wondeful step father to my 4 children so what can I do ....
On a happier note the sun has shone the mood of my colleagues is excellent following a wonderful Audit result and the auditor was there from 09,00hrs to 19.30 hrs result to day was that we achieved 85%
The staff have worked so hard and I was thrilled for them.

Now you may be wondering why i didn't post earlier and that is because I forget to pay my 6 monthl tarrif to GR

Ah well never mind I am back now

Happiness to you all
Bridget

Oops.sorry hadn't realised that this thread had been activated again, last time I looked it seemed dormant.

So sorry to read about your brother Val and will think of you Thursday at the funeral.

Bees in the lift sound horrid but perhaps instead of spraying and killing them the agent should have got somebody in to collect them. I was watching a programme on TV and bees are becoming endangered. If we lose all our bees we wont have any veg and fruit as we need them to pollinate, a bit extreme but they explained that it was quite possible that it could happen. So bees are valuable.

Sorry your OH is poorly Bridget, hope he recovers soon.
Also sorry you are under the weather Tess, hope you also feel better soon.

SpanishEyes Report 29 Jun 2010 23:00

Ann in Glos
great to see you back on this thread I had thought that perhaps it would simply fade away..I am delighted that is still going.
As for the bees the person I had contact details of told me that he had spoken to someone at the Town Hall I think but they would not deal with it because it was the wrong type of bee!!!

Apparently they also said that their sting is mild,,,now that is a very strange statement as anyone has an allergy to bee stings can actually die from the stings.

Of course I can understand that they are needed for the ecology of the world and wish that they did not have to be killed but I was terrified and it reallly did feel as if I was in an Alfred Hitchcock film

anyway welcome back and lovely to hear from you.

Good mornong everyone.
Well now. is Summer weather now finished? I woke this morning here on the south east coast to a damp grey day and the miist isincreasing...even the segulls and gathering together and huddling.
The air is very still and there isn't a sound to be heard apart from the birds. at least I can hear the songs of the birds even though I cannot tell what the birds are.

Val I thought about you when I woke this morning and simply want to say that your are in my quiet time each day and I say a prayer for you and your family and I shall add an etra few minutes thinking about you all. Take care of yourself.
Ann what are you up to today and what is the weather like where you are? I was delighted when you came back on the thread as it is rather pleasant having electronic pen pals for that is how I think about eveyone who posts on here.
I just had a thought, wonder of wonders....what about having a particular subject each week which we all disucuss?
I look forwward to some responses...hopefully.
Well that is all for the moment so have an enjoyable day and val a we shall all be thinking of you
bye for now everyone, hope tp hear from you soon

Take care of yourselves

Good morning all
Well I forgot to wake up this morning - well not quite true - woke up numerous times in the night . remember Paul getting up about 8.45 and then zap - woke with a start and it was 9.54 !! I can have restless nights but sleep when most people have been up and about for hours.

Yesterday Paul and I sat at the computer for what seemed hours booking a flight to the UK. Modern technology - I said it was far quicker in the days of travel agents !! Must be getting old. Anyway, we have booked to fly to Newquay, Cornwall on 17th August for a week and we will be bringing my mom back with us. I have tried to say how humid the weather is in Spain during August but does any one listen - NO !!! Why do they think we want to get away in August - oh well my mom will have to have cold showers.
She was so disappointed when the volcanic ash reduced her two week holiday in Spain to only one in April- so she will be here for a couple of weeks then my sister will fly over and take her back.

Val - am thinking of you today . take care.

Great idea about having a discussion on here Bridget . perhaps we can pick a topic in the news and go from there.

Well I really must get my act together and do something - what I am not to sure about - still feel half asleep.

Bridget - hope your hubby will be feeling better soon and hope the British summer makes a come back.

Take care all

Love Mary xx

editted to add congrations Bridget and all your staff on your audit results xx

Only realised that it was July when U saw this thread had been updated.

Val will be thinking of you and your family today.

Although I live in a built up area I can hear the birds in the early morning. They (I think that it is Blackbirds), start at around 4am at this time of year. Happily announcing a new day. I like it most of the time, but a bit annoying when I haven't yet had any sleep.

Good idea to have a topic for discussion, have to warn you that I am not an ideas person, and often think a little differently to most other people who are willing to aire their views! I don't mean to be awkard, honest.

It is cooler here today, but I reckon that the pollen count is still high. At least we haven't got a hurricane here, so I shouldn't moan. (I WILL moan, but I know that I shouldn't).

Off to have a shower. Have a great July everyone.

Tess

Good afternoon all, sorry wasn't on earlier but had a 'deep cleaning' session at the dreaded dentist. Can't be pleasant being a dentist, nobody really enjoys visiting them do they ?or do they? Anyway, for a deep clean I have to have injections (about five for top and bottom on one side, had the first side done in June. Then I had two x-rays (£76). Have to go back in 3 months.

This afternoon I have to do the minutes for a meeting, that is type them up, the meeting was on Tuesday. And then I have the household accounts to sort out to see if we are still solvent.

Then I may be able to do some writing, make some cards or do a scrap book page. OH is doing the garden which is more or less up to date anyway as we have worked on it a lot lately.

Bridget, well done with the audit. I am awaiting delivery of a flash drive with the Health and Safety handbook for our company as I need to review it for addition of recent legislation as a Trustee. That is going to take a while I am sure. First have to track any new legislation since we last reviewed it as trustees, I think about 4 years ago. It should have been updated, they are pretty efficient but you never know.

Thinking of you Val and your family, a hard day for you all.

It was so pleasing to see you all writing on this thread again, I am really pleased that we have managed to keep it going...well done everyone.

Val, I took time out, only about 5 minutes ,simply to walk around the garden and thought of you and your family at the funeral today. I hope that everything went as planned that you have been able to say your goodbye.

Tess, I am so pleased that I took the plunge and entered the five hundreth posting but now I believe that the board belongs to all of us who contribute to our dialogue so entry number 600 must come from anyone who posts. I wonder how long it will be before we reach that level?

Mary in spain I hope that you enjoy your trip to the UK, you will certainly be in a very pleasant area. How lovely that your mum can visit you as well.
Ann in glos You certainly sound a very busy person,. I am intrigued and rather nosey I suppose. What tyope of business do you have?. I know what you mean about H&S I have written dozens of articles, and risk assessments....

OH is feeling much better now so I hope that he continues to be well. He is so stuborn at times but if it is me or one of the children he becomes very concerns and makes sure that we the doc or a pharmacy.....
well time to say goodnight. I am going to think of a couple of subjects we could discuss and ask that you do the same or we could take turns to start a topic. Any suggestions haw we manage this will be most welcome.
Bye and goodnight

Good Morning everyone

It is a beautiful morning here and the sun iis shining and the weather forecast is good for the weekend as well.
Not much time this morning so here are a few suggestions for topics to discuss, I though that perhaps we could vote for topics and the highest score would be the winner and to start the discussion from next Monday. Any other ideas would be welcome.
My suggestions

"What is great love"?
What is Art?
What is the purpose and goal of education?
What is/would be /was your ideal holiday and why?

Will look on here when I get home this evening
Have a good day everyone
Bridget

In case anyone is wondering I do still maintain my quiet time each day. We have a beautiful garden of nearly 5 acres where I work and I take a coffee outside and sit quietly and say my prayers and try to rationalise my thought and think of all of you who are having difficultt time...hoping that time will provide the answers needed or at least help decisions to be made. Contemplation is propably the best way to descibe what I do.

Hope that you feel a bit better now Bridget. It seems like you are now the main entertainment for your residents as well as manager. I hope that they were suitably impressed!

Your discussion list is impressive too. I would vote for the ideal holiday one (I think) but haven't decided on what holiday I would choose yet.
The Art and Education suggestions are also interesting, but I would have to search for my serious hat!
Haven't (as yet) been able to come up with any suggestions yet. Will get back if and when I think of anything.

Hope that everyone else is ok Have been early shopping this morning with Ring and Ride. Then had a nap this afternoon, managed to miss the football, and really I wanted to watch the game.
Will be watching tonight and egging on Spain.

Tess
Thanks for the message and the kind coments.
I will try to keep nudging this as it would be pleasing to get a few more ideas but if not maybe we should just go ahead with your choice from my list
So unless anyone has posted any more suggestions I think we should nomminate the ideal holiday for our first attempt. I guess we should have time scale but not sure what it should be,,,all suggestions welcome

Best wishes to you all
