I made the Weetabix Cake to-day.
We don't get Weetabix so I used Weetbix which I presume is similar.
It was so easy to make and was really very nice, everyone enjoyed it. I will definitely be making it again.

If you don't mind me asking Jean, is the crust supposed to be very crunchy?

Yes it is Valerie, one thing you have to make sure it is cooked right through, I have made another , we have a new oven and as it is a fan one, wasnt sure of the time, so came out a bit to soon, the further we cut into it it became gooey.... still nice though...a lot of folk put mashed banana instead of fruit, and no sugar, there are lots of bits you can add, nuts, seeds et.c..
if you google "weetabix cake" there are lots of ideas....

Thanks Jean, whern I tested it it wasn' t cooked in the middle so I cooked it for another 10 minutes, and it was perfect. I like easy recipes and this was so quick. Good luck with your new oven

I will google as you suggested.

Hello and good evening to everyone.

Appointments made to see two printer somtime on th in the second week of January so please keep the recipes comimg.
I noted that the SSAFA has put poit a plea NOT to send parcels individually but to give them to SSAFA who will arrange for them to be sent where most needed. this was brought to my attention by one of the carers where I am working, her 20 yr old daught is on her third trip and is a medic.
By the end O f january the main part of nmy work should be completed and then it should be plain sailing,,,,For those who remember me last year,,,do not worry about me, OH keeps me on the straight and narrow re working long hours

Love to you all

Thought I would add this to thread.

I'm going back to basics .......just acquired my mother in-law old cookery books
and there are so many old traditional recipes .

Cant wait to try them.......Cook books go back to early 1900's.

If any one would like an old recipe I'll try and look it up for you, if I have it !

I can see that this thread which I started some time ago seems to have become visible again. Is it still live and if not would anyone like to start adding recipes again. I love cooking, my figure shows that!).
If it is to become alive again I will add some recipes this week.
Bye for now

A great and easy little recipe

Chocolate Chip Cookies
What you need:

* 6 oz butter
* 4 oz caster sugar
* 8 oz self-raising flour
* 4 oz chocolate chips

What you do:

Preheat the oven to 180oC, gas mark 4. Grease 2 baking sheets.

Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Using an electric whisk is quickest.

Sieve the flour into the bowl and fold it in, using a metal spoon to ‘cut’, lift and fold the mixture.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Roll the dough into small balls and place on the greased baking sheets. Flatten them slightly and leave room between for them to spread out.

Cook for about 15 minutes until lightly browned. Leave to cool and firm up on a cooling rack.

and another easy cookie recipe

Chocolate Wheels
What you need:

* 6 oz plain flour
* Pinch of salt
* 3 oz margarine
* 1½ oz caster sugar
* A few drops of vanilla essence
* 1 egg, beaten
* 2 oz chocolate

What you do:

Preheat the oven to 200oC, gas mark 6. Grease 2 baking sheets.

Sieve the flour and salt together into a bowl. Rub in the margarine, using your finger-tips, until you have a fine breadcrumb mixture. Stir in the sugar and mix to a dough with the egg and essence.

Roll out the dough onto a floured surface. Cut out cookies with a 5 cm cutter.

Place on the baking sheets and cook for about 10 minutes until golden. Allow to cool on a wire rack.

Melt the chocolate in the microwave or over a pan of boiling water. Take the bowl off the pan - or out of the microwave - before dipping the biscuit half-way into the chocolate. Leave to set before eating.

Tried and Tested and Delicious.... If you lik Almond flavouring and Amaretti biscuits and raspberries this one is for you

6oz soft margarine, 4 ozs golden caster sugar, 3 oz ground almonds, 5 oz SR flour, 3 eggs. Beat these all well together. Grease and line an 8" spring form cake tin. Oven at 160o C. Crush 5ozs Amaretti biscuits. buy small tuub raspberries (250g).

Put half cake mix into tin, spread evenly, top with half of crushed biscuits then put about half raspberries on top. Cover with rest of cake mix, then a layer of the remaining crushed biscuits, and the raspberries. Cook for approx 50-60 mins depends on cooker, ready when skewer comes out clean. Leave to cool in tin, Then can be served with more raspberries and cream or icecream..............Delicious OK with foreign raspberries but definitely better with English ones when in season

Oh so delighted to see that this is back. A friend in the UK has said she will look at this and see if she can print it a a book form for me and then I/we could see if we can raise some funds for the original intention. However if not please do not be concerned because I have already given a fairly decent gift to the funds.

More recipes to follow very soon.
