I had a look earlier Huia - mine has always been continuous.

Pxx

Next one is my deletion - pressed submit once but it liked it so much it had a hiccough.

Right, that's it, Pauline has changed my mind for me, after reading her message I thought of all I have learnt on here. A good friend is helping me at this time with a new hobby that I would never have thought of doing before. For £10 a year I might as well keep it going as it's on continuous, and even if I don't post I can keep up with what's happening in the world, it's better than the newspapers sometimes.

I clicked mine back on continuous overnight. It is still six months.

I agree with changing your membership to continuous and see what happens. You still have the option of saying no because they email you to tell you they are actioning the renewal.

Huia Report 6 Feb 2010 19:28

Persey, change yours to continuous now and you might find that it is only NZ$19.95 for 12 months but if you dont change you could find it has become 6 monthly for the same amount.

I've just renewed my membership, I don't get time to come on GR much now but it is nice to look in occasionally and see whats happening around the site and keep an eye on my tree,,,,,,,I'd say renew anyway.

My payment converts to eleven pounds 15 (is it p) in British currency. I am only a standard member. You are a gold member and have access to searches on census that I do not have. I do my searching elsewhere.

I paid £10 for 12 months - standard membership.

I think I get a lot out of my £10, help with my tree, friendship and a good laugh at some of the threads. I've also found out a lot of interesting things that have nothing to do with genealogy.

AuntySherlock - £10??? I paid about £35 for six months which makes me a Gold Member - what's yours?

I wondered, and now am glad I renewed.

I had contact from someone, who was related to a second cousin I did not know, and it has opened another chapter in my Family History.
Also able to help another cousin who is tracing her mother's family.

After all this is what this site is really for, Family History.

Friends Reunited is where I do my chatting and belong to grouips.

I have been a member for years, but only discovered the Community boards at Christmas 2008. Until then, I logged in often and checked Hot Matches, added names, etc. However, since I discovered the boards, I now log in every day and start the day off by talking to friends in various parts of the UK and Australasia. I read a lot of the threads, although not all, but I have a favourite thread and wouldn't miss talking to whoever is there at the time for an hour or two. We have become very good friends and give/ask advice, cheer each other on, worry about each other and are happy and sad for each other. The cost of renewing doesn't come into it for me - it's worth every cent and more.

How do I renew my upgrade? There will be a link contained in the email which will take you straight through to a page on the website which will give you the various payment options you can use to renew.

If you have trouble accessing this link, you can also reewn your upgrade by logging into the Genes Reunited website and clicking on the Renew now link on your homepage.

You will then be taken through to the renewal payment screen where full instructions will be given. If you have an annual membership and renew it 2 weeks before and up to 4 weeks after your renewal date you do have the option to go for just one year's membership. Or you can opt for continuous membership where we will automatically take payment from your card the following year. If you renew over 4 weeks after the renewal date, your renewal will be valid for 6 months.

If you joined the site recently and have 6 months membership, then your renewal will continue to be for 6 months.

We will send you an email reminder a couple of weeks before your upgraded membership expires. You can choose to renew again. If you have opted for continuous membership we will still email you to remind you that the payment is going to be taken.

You can change your payment options at any time by going to My Account page. You can access this in the top right hand corner of the page.

I paid $19.95 AUD for six months. That's about ten of your pounds isn't it. Truly, for the amount of fun and information I have from this site I really can't complain about the cost.

Makes you wonder if they are going to do a price hike.
Mine comes up in June - I started on here in April 2004 and all mine have been yearly.

Dear AuntySherlock

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that membership upgrades are for 6 month periods only.

I am sorry I cannot be of more help.

Best regards,

This is the reply I received. It is dated 18 Jan this year and is for standard membership.

AuntySherlock Report 6 Feb 2010 08:14

It is strange that you should ask that. I signed on for 12 months the first time and took the check out of the continuous membership box about a week before my subs were due. I wanted to decide when I renewed so I could keep an eye on my card. Then I just clicked on the renew button and it renewed me for six months. And, as I said I asked why six months and the reply came back that "all memberships were now for six months".

I wonder what will happen if I click the membership back to continuous!!

Going to do some looking and clicking. Be back.

Huia

Huia Report 6 Feb 2010 07:56

Aunty S, do you have Continuous membership? I have and when it was renewed on 14 Dec the receipt said that it went through to 14 Dec at the end of this year, so unless the rules have changed very recently it is not 6 months for all.

Huia.

AuntySherlock Report 6 Feb 2010 07:26

Just thought you might like to know. And this is about the mechanics of renewing GR memberships. You can now only renew for six months. I renewed and then asked why my membership was only for six months their reply was that all membership are now for six months.

So perhaps take it out for six months and see how you feel at the end of that time. Isn't quite as long as a whole year.

Giggles to Liz.

One of the chaps that used to be on here used to call me the goddess with having Persephone for a board name.

I did not want to label you Queen of the boards - never know what people will think.

At least Julia May is staying now - so some good came of this thread.
I think she started a very good thread myself.

Persey - Diva indeed lol

If you heard me singing you wouldn't say that lol
Or are you saying I am a prima donna ? pmsl I bet there are a few on here who would agree lol

A diva (English pronunciation: /ˈdiːvə/, Italian: [ˈdiːva]) is a celebrated female singer. The term is used to describe a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, and by extension in theatre, cinema and popular music. The meaning of diva is closely related to that of "prima donna".

The word entered the English language in the late 19th century. It is derived from the Italian noun diva, a female deity. The plural of the word in English is "divas"; in Italian, dive [ˈdiːve]. The basic sense of the term is "goddess, the feminine of the Latin word divus (Italian divo), a male deity.

Hmmm, goddess, lol, yes thanks, that will do nicely!!

Seriously I have met so many people from different countries, walks of life etc and also my geography has improved no end as I look up where people are from. And some people's home addresses are on my special pals list now too - wouldn't be without them in my life.

Julia May.
I dont envy you searching Brown. My aunt married a Brown who was born in Willesdon. The family ( at least him and his mother) went to Middlesbrough My aunt married him in 1935.

They had 13 children. I recently " met" on here a new member who is the daughter of one of the children . Several of the children moved back down south and I hadnt been in touch with any of the Brown cousins for 45 years.

Sadly 6 had died some in tragic circumstances. I wouldnt have known any of that if I had left so it pays to stick around
