If you take the wife Mick she can put that lot in her handbag.
You will just zap through checking in.

I always put a large towel in the case first with the short end towards the back and then I pack everything on top, shoes round the sides and small things tucked inside shoes, heavy things towards the hinge of the case. With the trousers I would put them in almost last but would put the bottom end at one end of the case and spread them as far along as they will go towards the other end, then fold over from the waist but in the fold put a sweater or cardigan, something that will cushion the fold from becoming a sharp crease. When everything is in and before fastening the elastic bits that hold stuff in place, fold the towel back over towards the hinge so that if anyone gets to your case and tries to poke their hands in to steal stuff they will come across the fold of the towel, to stop them.
Have a great time, I have to say packing is my worst nightmare as I always end up trying to take too much and the idea of getting rid of stuff before coming home sounds great, I always dislike spending the last hours of my holiday trying to pack to come back.

You seem to have received plenty of handy hints Jill - I'm like Berona and pack a few plastic bags. When we go away it is ever so neatly packed and then I start dividing it one side for clean and one side for dirty in plastic or I actually wrap a bin bag around them and then I can still lay trousers and jackets on top.

The main thing is enjoy yourself (which I'm sure you will) and then you can come back and tell us all about it.

Cheers Persey xx

Hi Grumps, me again, I'm with the lady in a wooly hat throw it all in,and hope for the best, after all, only you care, nobody else will notice.

Just remember some of the sights that you see on holiday, everyone chills out.

Have a lovely time, and tell us all about it when you come home.

Best wishes and a safe journey, Nina.

Thank you Barbra.

I am beginning to look forward to it now. It was OH's choice as something he wanted to do for ages. And as it's his 65th birthday on the day we go it seemed like a good idea.

I don't think he's going to "retire" as such as he always has to be doing something but I wonder if we'll be able to afford hols like this in a few years ... so I plan to enjoy it!

I used to know someone who threw stuff away on hols to make room for goodies ...!

Oh Annie - we had to hunt out OH's passport this morning. Turned out drawers, went through Lord knows where. He found it tucked into the inside pocket of a jacket in the wardrobe that he put away after our last hol In September!

Just a tip,if your trousers are creased when you unpack, put them on a hanger and hang in the bathroom and turn the shower on,the steam will help to uncrease them.

I'm planning on taking the walking boots in a separate boot bag thing. If I put them in the case I won't have room for much else!

Yes Berona - good point. Especially as we move between two hotels.

Oh yes, add a plastic bag to your list. I always take a couple of plastic bags - one to put in the used clothes for re-packing to come home, and another for "whatever" - even if you don't use it, it doesn't take up any room!

Happy holiday.

We're off to Switzerland on the Glacier Express!! 3 nights in one hotel, then 3 nights in another hotel with train trips up into the mountains etc.

OH is looking forward to it as he's not seen the Matterhorn in 50 years and wants to check that it's still there.

I hate the snow and ice but I'm sure it will all look beautiful - just don't want to walk around in it much.

Packing is a problem though as it's walking boots and warm trousers etc for day and "smart but casual" for the evenings. And then they recommend taking one small-ish suitcase so it will fit in the luggage areas on the train! Nightmare.

I feel like getting mum's old suitcase out of the loft - one of those teensy-weensy 1950s ones - and using that. 'Cos I remember all those old films where these glamourous women would carry their dinky little case on hols and then they would have all those big puffed up dresses to wear so a 1950s case must be like a tardis mustn't it?

Adds plastic bag to list. Thank you.

I don't have many clothes either BC - and the ones that I do have are fashionably creased or madly patterned. But I daren't risk rolling anything up!

I'm not going until next weekend but if I don't organise myself a bit this weekend I will only have Monday evening free to sort stuff out and Friday evening to pack!
