I have a Encyclopedia of Inventions here but it does not have Potato Masher in it. It's I think designed for school age children but it is a very interesting book with short history of 340 inventions with drawings and pictures.

I've learnt things like the first dishwashers that appeared in the USA around 1900 were turned by hand but unfortunately leaked and only washed a few dishes at a time. And the the wringer for washing machines was invented in 1861.

So, who invented chips? I mean, why on earth did someone think that would be a good idea?

Inventor of Potato Masher Dies
January 21, 1991|From Times Wire Services

PARIS — French industrialist Jean Mantelet, who vowed to free women from cooking chores and built an industrial giant on a potato masher, has died a month after retiring, his Moulinex company said today.

Mantelet, known in France as "Monsieur Moulinex," died at his Paris home Saturday. He was 90.

Going back off track -- there is a law firm in Ontario, barristers & solicitors & patent agents, called
SMART & BIGGAR.

Now, if you wanted to patent your invention, whom would you hire?

Hah Joy! --

"Modern instant mashed potatoes, though, does have an inventor, Canadian scientist Edward Asselbergs."

I saw the question and was all prepared to give the answer: Humph. A Canuck invented the potato masher. Canucks invented everything. A Canuck invented the zipper.

And there I was, upstaged by reality. ;)
